hi friends, i had installed kaspersky antivirus 2009 on my compaq laptop, however there turned out to be some bug in the antivirus and it crashed, suddenly the icons from the desktop started blinking, so i uninstalled the antivirus, however after restarting my pc all the desktop icons disappeared and only the wallpaper was visible, i called up hp contact centre and the idiots there didnt know a damn thing, so i disabled the startup items in safe mode and then i got the icons back...problem is that in normal mode i cant get the icons back... i was just wondering if a system restore is possible on vista, since it has a predefined restore point and i cannot select a certain date to restore the system?? also can someone suggest me if uninstalling and reinstalling trial versions of differnt anti viruses cause any harm to the computer as i have been doing so since last 8months...

Un and reinstalling different antivirus definitely can cause stability problems. Why? You should understand that AV software install drivers to monitor the whole computer. When they are uninstalled, some drivers are not removed. So, when you install the next AV, the new drivers get installed too. And it is very well known that running more than one antivirus at a time can conflit with each other. This is what it means. I recommend you to either opt for a freeware(avg, avast) or buy a good AV(nod32).

Hmm... I think it might be the same thing in vista too, and since I dont have vista at present, I'm afraid I cant help you... perhaps wait for someone else to confirm it? or just try it in vista... nothing can go wrong.
