1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Desktop for gaming, office work and video editing. I am not into very graphic intensive games.

Gaming: MMOs (Perfect World International at the moment), Counter Strike.
Office Work: SQL Server, Business Intelligence Studio, Windows Movie Maker, Fraps.

Mobo must support USB 3.0 and Sata III.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 30K. Can extend upto 35K.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server (64 bit).

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: Good enough to store OS, important softwares(maybe games too). Have a 500GB Hard Drive (Sata II)

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: No. Have a 23'' Dell monitor with 2048 x 1152 resolution.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: November 2012.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Yes but in 2002.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Pune. No, not buying locally except UPS.Yes, buying online.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: I would like to have a build where I can work without any lag. Like playing a MMO at 1080 resolution, capturing the screen and using a VOIP software like Teamspeak/Ventrilo/skype at the same time. Also for basic video editing. (Can consider reducing the MMO resolution to 1366x768 )

Normally the problem with MMOs is that, the Frame Rate remains pretty good in isolated areas but drops drastically during raids or when too many players are nearby. And capturing the screen during this time drops the frame rate even more.

Apart from this I will use SQL Server 2008,MSBI Suite and have to run Fraps sometimes to capture the screen.

Please suggest me a descent build.

Thanks for your reply :)

This build looks pretty good and should suffice my requirement. I also did some some research and came up with the following build.

AMD 3.6 GHz AM3+ FX4100 Processor
RADEON HD 7750 1GB DDR5/GTX 560Ti
CORSAIR RAM VENGEANCE LOW PROFILE 8GB(2*4GB) DUAL CHANNEL DDR3
Corsair Force Series 3 120 GB SSD
Seasonic S12II 520 Watts
COOLER MASTER CABINET ELITE 431 PLUS

I thought of going for the FX4100 instead of FX6100 to adjust the budget for a SSD since 120GB would be enough for OS and Software storage. Regarding the Graphics Card, I went through some reviews and found GTX 560Ti being rated above HD 7750. For the motherboard, is there any alternative for MSI MOTHERBOARD 970A-G46 as I couldn't find any online seller or a motherboard to accommodate FX 4100.

I am also skeptical about the drivers when Windows 8 will come out.

Kindly suggest.

MSI 970A-G46 Motherboard

With Full windows 8 support.

You can go for SSD later. even I am planning so.

I think HD-7850 and GTX-560Ti are comparable.
Hd-7850 for Rs. 13,728.

Hi,

After reading a lot of reviews and going through various forums, I have decided to go for an Intel Processor. The AMD Processors are great value for money but I am wlling to go for an Intel since the Sandy Bridge Processors outclass the AMD Bulldozers. Many may not agree and I really respect that but wherever I have read reviews and comparisons, the Intel Processors have been put a notch higher. So, finally this is the build I am going for

Flipkart Price

Intel i5-2500K 3.3 GHz -- Rs.13375
Asrock z77 Pro 3 -- Rs.7655
Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 4 GB x 2 -- Rs.2674
WD Cavier Blue 500GB SATA III -- Rs.3641
Corsair CMPSU-600GUK 600Watts -- Rs.5246
Coolermaster Elite 431 Plus -- Rs.3780
Asus DRW-24B3ST Optical Drive -- Rs.1220

This is higher than my Budget as the total comes to 37591 excluding the UPS and Graphics Card. I will buy a UPS from local shop and a GTX 550Ti in the next month. Probably an SSD after few months. This is the best I could think of.

Kindly suggest if there are any better options.

Thanks for your valuable response. Keep them coming

Fx 6100 is good in multi-threaded tasks(better than i3 2100 mostly) and a decent processor at its price range.
Since you have the budget for sandybridge i5 then it is better to go for it.

Look for Asrock z77 Pro4 for around 9k.Other options are asrock z77 extreme 4,asus p8z77 v lx.
For PSU Corsair gs600 is not required unless you are planning for something like hd7850 crossfirex.Look for GS500,sseasonic s12ii 520w or corsair cx500v2.
Don't buy gtx550ti.Better buy an hd7770 at around 8k,provides much better performance that that.Else get an hd7750 which is around 6.5k.
HD7750 performs as good as gtx550ti but consumes much lesser power.
Try purchasing things in local market, things should be cheaper than online. If possible add a bit more and get corsair carbide400r for around 5k.

If you're not planning to overclock then you don't need K series Processors from Intel as they're meant for overclocking. Better get i5 3450 @ 11.7k AND Asus P8B75-M Motherboard @ 6.2K (Prices are from Smcinternational.in, Flipkart is little overpriced). This will be more than enough for gaming needs. The Motherboard does have both SATA III 6 Gbps and USB 3.0 ports.
With the extra money, you can go for a better Graphics card which is much essential for gaming. Get Gigabyte HD 7850 2 GB GDDR around 14K.

Seems quite legit. Some of the differences that I could find between B75 and Z77 are RAM OC, Intel Rapid Tech and Smart Response. I am not going to OC so it's fine but not sure about Rapid Tech and Smart Response. I think B75 would be a good deal since anyways If I have to upgrade to Haswell or Broadwell then I have to get a whole new Mobo.

The only thing baffled me about the i5 3450 is the Integrated Graphics. I hope HD2500 will be good enough run the MMO till I get a Graphic Card.

Gigabyte HD 7850 2 GB GDDR looks like an overkill to me. As mentioned by vkl is his last post, how about a HD 7770 or a Graphic Card in that Price range (7k to 8k)

HD 2500 is not that great in gaming. For cards, I think HD 7770 is little under performer as Games are getting more intense in Graphics requirements. Try to squeeze a HD 6870 or GTS 650 Ti at least. And you don't need o worry about the absence of Rapidtech and Smart Response...they aren't that deal breakers. :)

Actually I am really not into Graphic Intensive Games. :p I have a PS3 on which i play games and I am happy with the graphics and that also i do very rarely :-D

I just want my MMO to run fine and the system is able to run lag free while I do some other stuffs as mentioned in my first post.

BTW what's that pyramid like object in your Avatar picture

At around 8k hd7770 is the card to get.If you can spend more then hd7850 is the card to get.Should be available for around 13.5-14k.You can also look for the hd7850 1GB version.
Gtx650 is around 8.5k-10k,performs below hd7770.Gtx 650ti performs better than hd7770 but would cost more.HD7850 is 40% or more faster than gtx650ti.
