^^ Run GPU-Z. Check if GT525M is detected. Install some game and see if you get good frame rates.

I think NVIDIA Optimus is at play here, making only Intel HD show up. But not so sure if Inspiron 15R supports it.

^ Optimus technology basically allows the laptop to use the onboard graphics when doing work which is less intensive on the graphics department(like using MS word etc). This is done to preserve battery life since a dedicated graphics card drains the battery of a laptop a lot faster compared to integrated graphics.
And when you use some program which demands intensive graphics power(like gaming for instance) the optimus tech allows the laptop to use the dedicated graphics chip.

check the side of the laptop. some laptops with Nvidia GPU comes with a switch to select the graphics. whereas others have to use the Forceware control panel to switch between GPU in use. play a bit with the Nvidia driver screen. it should have some option.

or wait for someone with similar config to reply.

Very few laptops come with hardware switch for graphics switching. I know only Sony S series ( i am forgetting one more). AFAIK/XPS Inspiron doesn't come with hardware switch.

And by default, the switching mode is automatic.

@OP- You just run a game, it will change to graphics card (see the change in GPU-Z, run it after launching game). Or you can see it any hardware temp monitor. You can also set switching to manual through your nVidia settings panel.

Plus, it may also happen that graphics switching doesn't changes to GPU even after launching a graphics intensive app (games or whatever). Actually, graphical switching is still in nascent stage and its driver has long way to go. Although I hardly faced any switching issue.

there is no switch as such for switching the GPU ....
i guess its the Optimus technology thts playing its role over her .
will do some re-search in this ..
but nothing much mentioned on DELL Inspiron webpage about this...!!!

There is no switch button. There must be a context menu entry to run an app using dGPU, however.

It's still not clear if Inspiron 15R has Optimus. GT525M is capable, but it needs to be implemented by the manufacturer.

I don't have Optimus, but my brother's friend's L502x have it.

You can right click on any shortcut/executable and select the context entry to use dedicated GPU or on-board solution, if you have installed nVidia drivers and control panel correctly. :)
