Hi everyone ,

I have a DEll Vostro 1510 and after 2 years of use the GPU (geforce 8400) has failed .
Dell people have said the motherboard needs to be replaced which i have heard costs around 10-15k .

Please Suggest
1) is it worth to get lappy repaired at local shops at nehru place

2) Can i buy extended warranty . original warranty expired year ago .

3) Buy a new lappy but this time with 3 year cover .

Please help .

go with option 3 and lookout for core i5 and ATI Radeon graphic card in dell inspiron or studio series or in sony vaio if u want a laptop (WHY NOT A DESKTOP????)

8400GS is a hot graphics solution. so some fault must have occurred. 2yrs warranty is safe. maybe your luck bad. & yes as pranav.seth told, get graphics from ATI Radeon series with i3/i5 or may look out for Radeon based IGP solution but will require AMD based proccy. and will be considerably cheaper.

My location changes from time to time so want something portable .

Any suggestion regarding repair from third party ?????

I want to avoid buying a new lappy , but not comfortable with paying 1/3 of lappy cost for servicing .
Dell will replace geforce 8400 with same card .(which would have same defect) .
Is it possible if i can get this replaced with IGP based motherboard ???

Doubt you can do such a major change on the laptop. Best bet is another 8400GS. Try Nehru Place, be careful. Do not leave it behind.
