Hi Guys!

I repartioned my HHD a few days back and installed a fresh copy of Win 98, but now I want to recover some important data from it. I do understand that theres always a chance of my data getting overwritten, but there another chance of it still being there all intact. I need a good recovery software. I have already tried "PC Inspector File Recovery" and "Easy Recovery" but no gain. Is there any better software than this.

Please help.

Thank you...

retrieving data from repartitioned [no just formatted] HDD, requires pretty serious tools [read forensic techniques]

but people say dat Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 does a not so bad a job, but extemely time consuming

i would suggest u File Scavenger ver 3, it will cost u around $49.

visit their website here *www.quetek.com/prod02.htm

i have personally used it and i think this is the best recovery software out there.
the features include:
  • Recovers the original filename and folder path.
  • Recovers files deleted from a network share. (File Scavenger must be run on the computer where the share is defined.)
  • Recovers files deleted in a DOS command window.
  • Recovers files removed from the Recycle Bin.
  • Recovers files deleted from Windows Explorer with the SHIFT key held down.
  • Recovers data from reformatted volumes.
  • Recovers files from deleted volumes.
  • Is especially effective in recovering digital images in JPEG format.
  • Recovers files from broken striped volumes (RAID 0 or RAID 5) or volume sets (spanned volumes).
  • Supports NTFS compression.
  • Provides English and German versions.
  • Supports both basic and dynamic disks.
  • Transparently handles bad sectors when possible. Otherwise allows the user to skip ranges of bad sectors.
  • Scans badly damaged partitions.
  • Supports alternate data streams and sparse files.
  • Can search for file patterns or file types.
  • Recovers multiple files in one click.
  • Can sort files by date, size, name, type, path, etc.
  • Restores the original Create and Modified dates.
  • Supports Unicode filenames.
  • Scans very large volumes (hundreds of gigabytes) holding up to a few million files or more on a computer with sufficient RAM.
  • Detects certain file types based on their data patterns, thus allowing recovery even when the file system structure is totally lost.
  • Saves a search session to a disk file for reloading later so that a drive needs not be scanned again.
  • Scans disk image files.
  • Supports FAT and FAT32, but in a limited manner due to the inherent weakness in those file systems.

There are lots of sotwares to recover lost data.....

Try R-Studio or Active.File.Recovery.Pro.v7 or UnDelete Plus or Active Undelete Pro or PCTools FileRecover or Power Data Recovery or Recovery My Files 3.9 or Recovery Genius 6 or Recover Lost Data

Don't install the software in the partition where the data is residing. Try not to overwrite the HDD with new data. If possible try to install your HDD as slave in your friends computer and install the recovery software in his HDD and try to recover. Do it ASAP and don't install or write new data in your HDD.

There is one more option to recover your lost formatted data. Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software. This data recovery software has the ability to recover the lost data from formatted hard drive or data lost due to software malfunction, viruses, file/direcotry deletion or even sabotage.
If your data has not got corrupted or overwritten then you can have your data back using this tool.
RAW file recovery of Stellar Phoenix recognizes & recovers more than 300 file types including documents, spreadsheets, web content &images.
What you can do is download the demo verion of the software from: *www.stellarinfo.com/partition-recovery.htm attach your hard drive as a slave on different machine and scan your hard drive. If the scan result shows you the recovered data then get the full version to save them.

Hope it does help you.
