The Devil's Advocate
This 1 is interesting (not for for u anti MS people, if you are 1 of them this is not for u)

The popular (and 1 of my fav shows) CSI New York has made use of PhotoSynth in it's latest episode to solve a case and not only that while confronting the criminal the detective says: It's a Microsoft world kid, I'm just living in it :D

As explained in this USA Today story today, the slick Photosynth photo-browsing technology is used in the episode to piece together and navigate camera-phone photos taken at a high school prom when a guidance counselor is murdered. The technology presents a collection of two dimensional images in a three-dimensional environment, letting people quickly zoom around to see different perspectives.

The photosynth sw had in al likelyhood been provided to CSI by M.S. themselves for the shooting

Even the forenesic eqpts they use [all of which are actual eqpt] are provided free of cost by its mfgs - the longest running inserted Ad :)

na, acc to the report it seems that the show producer has a good relation with MS and apparently MS didn't pay or something the maker wanted to use it as it was new

Oh just FYI, my MSc (Media Management) Thesis is based one on this concept of embedded advertising in Indian cinema and TV. This is another of the areas where Indians have lifted directly from western media:)

Live Labs said:
Photosynth made the jump from the lab to the small screen as detectives on the CBS crime drama CSI:NY called upon Microsoft Live Labs™ Photosynth™ to help solve a grisly murder at a high school dance. The TV detectives needed to reconstruct events from hundreds of images taken by student cameras and mobile phones. They turned to Photosynth to help them build and explore the scene which ultimately led police to their suspect.

Producers from CSI were introduced to Photosynth during a visit to Microsoft last summer and were so impressed they asked to use the technology in the show. Members of the Live Labs team were on the set and worked with the show’s crew to fully leverage the technology’s abilities. Producers were so happy with the experience that they decided to allow Photosynth to “do its own stunts” for this episode and have the actors interact with it live, as cameras rolled. Needless to say – there was much cheering as a very stoked Photosynth team watched the episode together. If you missed the show, you can catch it online on the CBS website or by exploring the current technology preview by going

That reminds me...
In the new Don, the disk they were using was actually a UMD of PSP. In one scene one of the actors even put it in a computer.
