Ok i presently own a
P3 933 mhz
256mb sd RAM
ATX cabinet
pioneer DVD-Rom
Samsung CD-RW with SAT technology
Intel 810e motherboard
40GB Hard Disk

So the think is i want to upgrade my computer to

P4 HT 3Ghz or 3.2Ghz
512 mb RAM
ATX cabinet
DVD-RW
875P chipset based Motherboard (i am thinking of Asus P4C800 let me know if this is a choice good)
128mb AGP Graphic card (i was told XFX is cheap i.e. 2200 and is good)
80 or 160 GB Segate Baracuda Hard Disk

So please tell me how much money should i expect to get in return for my Old CPU and also How much will the new sytem configuration cost (pls list the rates of each hardware piece) i cant afford to spend much so PLZ list items which are economical and dont need to be upgraded for quite some time

I m not sure but i think 875 mobos dont hav on board sound so u need a sound card. Also if u r upgrading that much consider 2.8 ht with 1 gb ram nd at least fx 5700 card or ati 9600 pro both available in 3.5 to 4 k range.Dont waste ur money on processor u can save almost 4k by opting for 2.8 instead of 3.2.That much speed is useless

For the AGP card,u can go in for the nVIDIA Ge Force FX 5200 (128 or 256 MB DDR RAM) Graphics card as this is better than the XFX card that u mentioned and also will come in ur budget and will let u see movies and better video quality even if ur not a movie or a game buff ....

cheers n e-peace.....

@cryptid
u r doing a useless upgrade if u r planning to buy an 875 board based machine. 875 boards were made for socket 478 processors which are history now. If you want your machine to be future proof for sometime now go for the new LGA-775 Processors from intel (as u want to go for an intel platform). i suggest the following for u ,

Intel® Pentium® 4 processor 630 supporting Hyper-Threading Technology
( 2MB L2 Cache , 3 GHz , 800 Mhz FSB , 90nm) (This procc supports 64 bit computing and also Execute Disable Bit )

For the motherboard go for ASUS P5GD1 (if u want to buy a separate grafix card) or ASUS P5GD1-VM (if you want integrated grafix) ... keep in mind that the integrated grafix is only decent enough to allow u to play latest games at low settings.

Couple the above procc and mobo with 256*2 DDR 400 RAM modules from kingston/corsair/transcend and run them in dual channel. now ur rig will be good enough and somewhat future proof.

Alternatively u can go for an AMD rig and buy the following,
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (939 pin)
MSI RS480M2 motherboard (comes with integrated ATI graphics)
256*2 DDR 400 RAM (kingston/corsair)

the above option will also be a good consideration as the mobo has integrated grafix (128mb shareable) which offers perfomance alomost equal to that of a Nvidia Geforce 5200. the mobo also has a pci-express slot so u can buy a separate card if u want to in the future for even enhanced gameplay.

If you provide me with your budget for the upgrade , ill try giving u the best advice.

Intel Penium4 630 ith HT is a preety good option , If P4 is what you want.
Graphix , go for a Radeon 9600 as already pointd out. Do consider 6600 from Nvidia also .

Cheers:)

Hey Mohit. Saw this in your Signature rite now.

I purchased this cabby a few days ago.

Is this the Ibox Grantsdale cabinet with Side vent..

Wanted to know if it's helping you keep the temps down.

What's your temp at Idle and load for CPU and the board.

Thanks,

the vent was not useful for me and i faced heating probs during the summer .. i had modified the cabby myself and i removed the vent and fixed a 80mm fan instead ... in the summer time i had 3 fans (1 frnt , 1 rear (factory fitted) , 1 side (instead of the vent) ) ...now i have removed the side fan and just working with 2 fans and no side vent also. any cabinet will keep ur system cool if u provide proper ventilation , as for the vent i think its useless and also it acts as a obstruction with the wires inside the cabinet... my suggestion is dont go for this cabinet. the build quality is pathetic. go for better stuff like VIP,UMAX etc (on the budget side).

Thanks for the reply.

I have already purchased this cabinet. Don't think the dealer would give a refund.

I will install a fan at the front immediately.
I think there is only space for a 80mm front fan..in this cabby.

Is there a way to fit a larger 120 mm fan..

Let's see the results- if not good, then even i would remove the side vent and put a fan there.

Actually intel makes a big deal about the side vent on it's website. so i thought it might do some good.
