Connection problem

i use a D-link GLB 802C modem and i have taken the 750 unlimited plan from bsnl.The problem i have is that whenever i start a torrent it works fine full speed but when i stop it and try to surf the net or use an application that requires the net it wont work the app will not be able to connect to the net....the only way i have is to either restart the pc or the modem which can get very frustrating.....i got a software from d-link in the driver cd they have supplied which configures the modem and the pc to automaticaly connect to the internet when the modem is switched on...i am using windows 7 x64 ultimate version...and also to get better speeds i used port forwarding is it because of that..that i am having the problem please help!!

Set defaults for each and everything and see what happens. No port forwarding or anything and then configure them to find out which settings is freaking you out.
