I have my desktop installed with windows XP SP2. I am accessing BSNL Dataone broadband on it. Its modem has four LAN ports.

Recently I bought ASUS laptop. I wish to access internet by connecting LAN cable of my desktop PC to LAN Port of my laptop. But after connecting it,it gives me message that you don't have valid IP address.

how to connect my laptop to internet..? Do I need to configure network connection from administrative setting of Desktop PC to give privileges to access it..?

how to configure it..?

please help..

As per the error u have not set up an ip address on ur laptop. To be able to access internet on laptop on LAN, u need to set the IP address & DNS address for the LAN interface.
Click on Start.
Click on Run.
Enter: ncpa.cpl
Right click in the LAN adapter
Click on Properties
Click on TCP/IP V4
Select configure/Properties
Enter the IP address & DNS address
Apply & Ok
