connecting laptop n PC

I m havin P-4 via chipset based PC with external 56K modem n a compaq Laptop. All i want to know that how can i connect these these two with the help of modem or any other means like USB to USB. or any other way for establishing two way communications between these two. Please help me?????

ok i connecting the two systems with a USB to USB cable. But how to configure the software settings for the connection. I m havin WIN XP PRO n WIN ME on my PC n WIN 2000 PRO on laptop. Please give details...???????

You CANNOT connect 2 computers together with a normal USB cable. You
need a special cable with an electronic circuit known as a USB
laplink cable such as *www.cablesnmor.com/usb-laplink.html

If you use a normal cable you can short ur USB ports

even tho this isnt require but yet

You can also connect using a crossover cable between the parallel ports
and the serial ports of two computers but the NIC cards and RJ45
crossover cable is probably the simplest and least expenisve way to go.

now u usually get software with some cables .. to set ur usb port as a network adapter ...
or u can use the windows direct cable connection .. try it out !
