Connecting Laptop-Desktop using cross-over cable

Laptop running on Win7 & Desktop running on XP. Is cross-over cable connected network possible?

yes. it should be possible afaik.

Both have to be in the same Workgroup though.

Assign Class C address & should be working good.

Thanks guys. When win7 was installed on both systems, homegroup created on 1 system was not recognized by the other. Had to manually assign IP 192.168.1.1 & 192.168.1.2 respectively on each pc & then start>run>\\192.168.1.2
Homegroup should have worked but don't know why.

^^i think u have to assign a static IP to at least one pc for homegroup to work
