Compaq Presario C308TU - XP installing help

Hi,

I am trying to install OS on Compaq Presario C308TU.

Following are observations

On booting normally, a long continuous beep. After which if went further and XP logo is displyed, within a second a BSOD is displayed and system reboots. Can not see BSOD code.

Booted from Linux, I can boot normally. See all partition on Hard disk and all data too.

When tried to install XP on it, Setup says it can find Harddisk. Press F3 to quit setup.

How to proceed ? Please help.

"It Can" or "It Cant" find the Harddisk?

If it can't find the harddisk, it is because the laptop has SATA enabled Harddisks and the XP CD you are using doesn't have SATA drivers.

you have two options:

1> try disabling SATA by going into the BIOS, and then proceed installing XP,

OR

2> use a SATA slipstreamed windows XP disk to install.

this should get you going.. if you need further help just ask.

It was a typo. Its can not. You mean to setting hard disk in IDE mode in BIOS?
