Checking Hardware config

guys , there is this friend of mine who has a problem . .


a few days ago , he tried to play around with the registry and ended up deleting some keys from the registry ...he had not made any back up of the registry keys either...

when he restarted the system, the system did not boot ..

it gave a message saying "checking hardware config.." and a blank screen followed ... the OS did not boot ... nothing happened thereafter ...

wat could be the reason and what could be done to get the PC back to normal ...

PS: reinstalling the OS also did not work out ... the PC wont boot from the drive itself !

put yr installation cd/dvd in the drive and while booting press the escape key(differs on diffrnt systems) and a menu will appear choose boot from yr drive(usually the model of yr drive is given) and the installation will begin
