If you want to have a taste of Android, go for Samsung Galaxy 5.

Else stretch your budget to about 11.7K & get the LG Optimus One.

Also you may consider waiting. Four new low-end Samsung Galaxy phones will be launched within couple of months.

If u want symbian, then go for e5 around 10.2k. If u want android below 10k, then better wait for galaxy mini, galaxy fit.

Thank you guys,
but all these suggestions (e5, galaxy or LG optimus) support FM recording? That is a must requirement for me.

Android phones can do (almost) anything. There must be an app. available for FM recording.

ok, but how do I ensure that app I've downloaded does not compromise security of my data on cellphone or does not wreck havoc like some viruses do on PC?. Do we have some sort of antivirus software for android cell phones too?

NainO

Believe Me or Not!!!
^^^ you have to download apps from android market, so its obvious that data is required :)
And android market is very much secure because of google's efforts. Also some anti virus are available for protection against downloaded apps from sources other than android market.
BTW developers currently are more interested in ' creating apps' than ' creating viruses' ;-)

Any OS platform that is used by majority of people would be the target of malware. Just like Windows in PC's, Android is moving towards a majority in smartphones. Thus it will be targeted in the near future. But that does not mean that we do not adopt Android smartphones.
