hi guys..,
i have two computers., say A and B ,

i am unable to access any modem using 192.168.1.1 from sytem B., i have two modems - one is normal one and another is wifi (both are bsnl supplied modems)., i want to setup my wifi modem so that i can use my mobile to surf the web.

i am able to login into both modems using 192.168.1.1 on sytem A only !!! ... so problem must be with system B right???

i tried resetting modem., n all.., but no use.,

the strange thing is i am able to access internet on both systems and on both modems!!

i tried changing modem setting when its connected to system A .,(changed to always on -pppoe), it worked - i was able to acces internet from system, n mobile as well, but, when i connect it to system B i am not coonecting to the internet through the system (only mobile surfing is possible).

There you see the difference.

Configure the LAN of your System B manually as follows: :)

LAN IP/IPv4 address: 192.168.1.3
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Primary DNS: 4.2.2.2
Secondary DNS: 4.2.2.1

Here's how it's done in Windows 7. I've got no idea about Vista. (I've only used it for less than 30minutes in my life :p) It should be similar though: *img211.imageshack.us/img211/6834/screenshot.th.jpg

much confused :-D

well wat can i say!! its a weird problem..,

i never understood why the computer was not made like an idiot box!! its just too complex...,

may be coz a geeks brain comes up with a new idea every second and ultimately its like we order an omelette , we end up getting a chicken and a manual to how to get it to lay an egg-then wash/break it-then.. blah blah blah blah blah .....-and finally....enjoy the delicious meal!! :))

to a geek ->> :cool:
to everybody else ->> :pullhair:

;)

well atleast life is made easier n fun to live..afterall its the geek who discovered the delicious omelette :)

ps: all vegans and peta members.... no chicken/egg was harmed in making of this post , and everything is purely fictional. PEACE :D

pps: i am a part geek :cool:

There is a thing named DHCP for LAN. It is most probably disabled in your router. What this thing does is that it automatically gives a LAN IP to your computer witout any manual configuration. As it is disabled, you have to configure your LAN manually.

I think the LAN was actually configured manually in the System A, but not in the System B.

2)after following your steps will my ip become static (or its upto isp), i want dynamic one so i can dwld from sites like rapidshare without waiting!!
That manual configuration has actually assigned you a static Local Area Netowrk IP to your computer. :) Your WAN IP or the Internet IP is still dynamic. :p So, no Rapidshare issues.

3)can u tell me where i can learn more about networking, ips etc etc..,
Google? :)

ip in system A is set to obtain automatic only. didn't change anything from default!!

anyways problem solved. so it doesn't matter much.
