Wel tel me one thing fellas..the Core 2 Duo (E6300 specifically) is a 64-bit Chip right? then why is that in the Device Manager it says x86 architechture and not x64?.

Core 2 Duo is x86 based Processor which supports intels answer to the x64 architecture Extended Memory 64-bit Technology (EM64T)....

Therefore though it supports x86-64 but its a x86 based processor... !! :)

Know more about it,

C2D is a x64 processor and your Device Manager will say so when you use a x64 operating system like Windows XP 64 bit.

Agree with saurav cheeta. It is only EMT64 that makes them capable of 64 bit computing but they are not 64 bit. The name itself denotes that [extended memory technology]. This is just stop gap arrangement from intel.

Stop gap arrangement ???? till what ?

What does 'Its not 64bit' mean ? When used with 64 Bit Applications,it works as a 64 bit processor.

x86 is the family of microprocessors but core2 are 64 bit as they have 64 bit registers, they support all 64 bit functions.

it not necessary that if a processor is based on x86 then it is 32 bit(e.g. 80086 was 16 bit, it followed x86)

its based on x86-64 technology as many of you must be knowing that single means true 64 bit were failed.. so the company made x86-64(AMD)(and please dont say intel made it first) to run 32 bit applications too... its a 64 bit proccy, but whats there to panic, coz its only to support more memory... thats it, and the dies and cores etc. are still x86 based. they cant still make it full X64 , there will be full x64 when the world will have all x64 applications, till then x85 will also be there... and YES

NISHANT IS RIGHT,install x64 windows and it will show you x64 based PC
