Buying a system for round the clock operation

I need to buy a system for my dad's office which will remain on all the time (connected with security cameras). Performance is not much consideration, budget is around 22-25k without monitor. I need only the basic components i.e. processor, motherboard, RAM, HDD, PSU & cabinet. any other component will be installed by the people installing the cameras. I've thought of the following:

Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition - 4.5k (since it runs cool)
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H - 4.5k
RAM - Corsair value RAM 2GB DDR3 1333 Mhz - 2.6k
PSU - Corsair CX 400W - 2.2k
HDD - WD Green 1 TB - 3.2k
UPS - Please suggest one - 3k
Cabinet - 1.5k

Since it is an office PC, budget is not that strict, can be stretched a bit.
Also suggest how this system should be cooled. Will the stock HSF suffice for the processor? I'll install two additional fans (1 Inflow 1 Outflow) & a hard disk fan if available.

The people who will install the cameras said AMD processors will hang in a 24 hour on system, so we should buy Core2Duo. what a joke

bold marks should be checked:

1. how X2 555 runs cool?
2. that mobo is AM2+/AM3. so DDR2 only.
3. APC 650VA.

Go for MA785GMT-U2SH or UD2H etc. Both are DDR3.

Other's is fine. Check out what Sam suggested.

If you'are planning to run the proccy on stock cooler try to get some good cabinet's such as Zebby Bizli, CM Elite 310 etc. (Both are within your budget). Or just check for 2x80mm Fan and 1x120mm Fan at least.

would Biostar TA785G3 be a good option? I don't know much about motherboards & saw the options available on lynx-india.com.
I wrote phenom II X2 550 runs cool because AMD has been improving with every range of processors & Phenom II is their latest range. Besides, in a thread you only wrote that AMD Phenom II runs cooler than Athlon II

you got it wrong X6 runs cooler than X4. You can go with Phenom II if you have AC in the office during day time. AMD (Mostly Athlon II and few Phenom II) PCs in our office run non stop for months together. But in office AC is there for 12 hrs

if no gaming. its a good board.

also maybe i was pointing out X2 runs cooler than an X4. but do remember Phenom II X2 got 6Mb L3 cache & it still uses the default Athlon II cooler. so, if someone unlocks the 2 extra cores, that processor will run hot.

HDD - WD Green 1 TB - 3.2k
don't go for Green for OS host! you can go for Seagate 1TB or WD 500GB Blue+WB 500GB Green.

Cabinet - 1.5k
increase your budget for the cabinet as you want 24hrs operation & for the cooling then yon need a good airflow!
i would say go for NZXT Gamma. Don't go for Elite in any case!

I'll install two additional fans (1 Inflow 1 Outflow) & a hard disk fan if available.
make it 1 inflow & 2 outflow. Also no need for HDD fan!

any particular reason here. i seen you suggesting Green shouldn't be used as primary HDD. why?
recently i heard people with Green where getting some probs(crash, HDD failure, etc) (only those people who had put the green as the OS host drive also green has bad performance as a OS host drive in general!

thats strange. i heard about crashes only in WD Blue & Seagate. not came across even a single complain about WD Green.

Green performs around 15-20% slower than blue cause of reduced speed.

What do you mean by unlocking the 2 extra cores, please explain

Phenom II X2 ---> X4 + 2 cores locked. so if those 2 cores unlock & are still in working condition, processor temp will rise significantly. now its upto you to experiment with these things.

wow, so essentially even Phenom II X2 is actually a Phenom II X4 & if we unlock the 2 cores somehow, we will have a X4 at the price of X2!

yes. you not know about it? i just thinking, if AMD start selling faulty thubans as X2. unlock & voila. X6 at the price of X2.

well most X2s open to X3. & some lucky ones get it to X4 & even OC it.

how does one unlock the core? and what's the use of selling it as 2 core when it is actually 4 core? are they mostly faulty cores which are locked?

just by turning a feature known as ACC (advanced clock calibration) in BIOS. AMD has removed it from their 8-series motherboard, but board manufacturers put their own ACC in. known as core unlocker (Asus), GT60 or something (biostar) etc.

in a X2 (Phenom II only, not Athlon II. they native dual cores), the cores are quality tested. if fault comes up, that core is locked. now the thing is that AMD's quality testing so high. even cores with minor defects can't pass. so, locked & sold as X2. in 2009 AMD used to have X3 also. but what happened actually is, as time passed Global Foundries manufacturing process improved. & so less defective processors were produced. as a result, AMD stopped selling X3s. instead locked 2 cores, even if only 1 is bad & sold it as X2.

i marked the 3 question you asked in bold letters. to access quick answers
