Budget laptop for gifting purpose

I'm in market to gift a laptop to my sister this Diwali.
Budget around 20k as it will be used for basic purpose only.

1) What is your budget? (INR or USD)

Rs. 20000/- for Dos or Linux


2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?

Netbook; 11" - 10” screen or less
Thin and Light; 12" - 14" screen
Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen

A. Preferable size 12 inches but can take 15 incher if specifications are better.




3) What are the primary tasks you will be performing with this notebook?

A. Office Suite Ms Or any Free, Extensive surfing with 2 browsers & multiple tabs open in background, Music, Movies & may be light gaming too on weekends.


5) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for ?

A. I saw one Dell Inspiron 3541 (AMD Quad Core/4 GB DDR3/500 GB/39.6 cm (15.6)/Ubuntu) on PayTM @17100 after cashback.


4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
a. Like: Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo
b. Dislike: Acer, Iball..


6) Anything else you would like to say?

Screen resolution ( 768p (HD) / 900p / 1080p (Full HD) ) Standard will do but display quality should be very good.
Battery back up ( normal (3-4hrs) / extended (5-7hrs) ) 4-5 hours
Purchase place ( Online (eg - flipkart, infibeam) / Local / Abroad (do mention the country) ) Online as I guess that's the cheaper option

You mean to say even Amd quadcore A6 - 6310 with 4gb ddr3 ram may be slower for regular student who surf a lot, work on ms office & multimedia.

Quad core of AMD is ok if but avoid for some reasons.

Better go for reliable & proven Intel i3 processors for common man.

Asked because under 20k budget found dell inspiron 3541 vfm @18k with ubuntu

shopclues is not at all recommended for any purchase crossing 3 digits(as per general consensus among experienced online buyers on major shopping forums).amd is as good as intel for similar processors(meaning i3 is comparable to a8 not a6 which is more in the league of celeron/pentium dual core). for an avg person/student pentium dual core is sufficient.note that pentium quad core/celeron quad core are kind of improved atom processors(numbering like Nxxx).the minimum one should get is a pentium dual core.

Avoid shopclues, ebay, paytm etc.
Better buy from local shops or flipkart, amazon.
Btw i have been using A6 6310 powered 4gb ram, 500g hdd Lenovo G50-45 since last 4 months. No issues with heavy internet surfing, movies and ms office work.
But this laptop cant run any new game even at lowest settings.

My sister will not play games on it but extensive music use in background & watching HD movies, YouTube, Vimeo etc

How is driver support for amd in Linux
