might be due to drivers problem that u installed due to modems for the connection of the reliance or dta one or any other software that u might have installed or some other driver or if u have system restore enabled, restore it to the most stable point.

it used to happen with me also but only on my dataone connection through my ethernet card . I used to get a blue screen saying that "your computer has been shut down inorder to prevent damage" ... are u facing the same problem ? I could not find any solution to the problem and i had also posted in the forum regarding it but nobody could help. I tried reinstalling Xp but that also dint help then with much annoyance I switched to windows 2000 and everything went fine. Now after some days I have again switched to xp home edition and the problem has not come up yet. Just try updating all your drivers and your OS (this had not worked for me) and try doing a clean reinstall without zone alarm. Zone alarm created another problem for me that I would have to restart my pc everytime i wanted to reconnect to the net. It just would not allow data transfer. (i am talking about the latest version of zonealarm and i did not mess with the settings at all)

u must be talking about the Love san attack which kaspersky detected. Coincidentally I had also received the same warning from kaspersky. I had shut down zone alarm for a minute and kaspersky gave the warning. I dont remember exactly but I think my comp went berserk after the attack itself and the problem i described in my last post started after this attack.

Check for potential IRQ conflicts. Look up your internet hardware in Device Manager to see if they have any Exclamation marks. Or, check the IRQ settings to make sure that no devices are conflicting. I've had similar problems too where I would get a BSOD each time I tried to use dial-up. IF possible, please post the error code and file name if any that appears in the BSOD.
