I use 2 optical drive in A7V8XMX-SE system my DVD ROM (Samsung SD 616E 16x) is configured as secondary slave in running winXP & win98

Recently I updated my system BIOS from v1005 to v1006 by ASUS update software. since then I am having this problem, the problem is every time boot up system try seek disk in the ROM, when ever I try to eject the tray it closes automatically, this thing continue for a long time, then system goes to dual boot menu. My system is configured as its 1st boot device is HDD & 2nd boot device is CDROM, rest all disabled. But when I disable the 2nd boot device also then this thing doesn’t happen, system goes strait to dual boot menu in no time. System was fine on BIOS v1005. I wonder whether this BIOS version has any problem or not.

What should I do?

I got the BIOS file from this address,

*france.asus.com/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=A7V8X-MX SE&Type=All

how safe & needfull is updating the BIOS??

whenever u update ur bios, then the BIOS DEFAULTS are loaded.
U enter bios & customise it to Boot fromm HDD instead of DVD/CD etc..

I have disabled all boot devices except HDD, as it’s the 1st boot device. But this problem still persists.

The strangest thing is when the DVD ROM searches for disk to boot in if you eject the tray it is supposed to stay open & system should go to dual boot menu in no time, but in my case it the disk tray closes automatically & this happens as many time as you try to eject it.

The DVD ROM works fine in winXP or win98.
