best video conversion software????

I want to know which is the most compressed format 4 a video file to be playable and will it be playable on wmp9,10. and which is the best software 2 convert video files into maximum range of other formats.
Also how can I make my wmp play max no of av formats such as quicktime etc ,i mean using codec or sum other method.

U CAN COMPRESS 2 CD VCD(1gb APROX.) TO 500MB USING THE DIVX CODEC AND VIRUTALL DUB DOWNLOAD THE LATEST VERSION VIRTUAL DUB FROM NET AND GET THE DIVX CODECS FROM MINDWARE COMES WITH DIGIT. U CAN SEE THE COMPRESSED FILE IN WMP BUT U NEED TO INSTALL DIVX FIRST.

well by the way i will also say that using divx with virtual dub is the best option. if you want any assisatnce in using it just pm me.

as far as know quicktime and real media cannot be played in wmp, i think no codecs are available for it.
