1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: MS Office, school projects, homework, watching movies, rarely games (cricket 2009, NFSMW (old one))

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: Rs 18k. Can extend to 20K max.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7 Home Premium (already have it) :)

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans:320 or 500 GB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans:Yes, 16-20" LCD/LED preferred with atleast 720p resolution.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: (NIL)

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:In a month or two

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:Assembler

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:Raipur (CG), Local purchase is preferred if costs less. can also buy online if unavailable locally.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:
My cousin will be using the pc.
I have selected the following components:
  • Processor: AMD 2.1 GHz A6 3500; Rs 3.8k
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte A55M-DS2; Rs 3.5k
  • Monitor: AOC 18.5 inch LED Wide; Rs 4.6k (any other suggestions which cost less?)
  • HDD: WD caviar blue 500 GB 7200 RPM; Rs 3.4k
  • RAM: Kingston DDR3 4 GB; Rs 1k
  • DVD writer: Samsung; Rs 900
  • Keyboard Mouse Combo: Amkette Classic Duo; Rs 350
  • Speakers: Intex 350W; Rs 300

I'm confused about which cabinet+psu combination will be good. Please suggest these two components.

The config is fast, but my cousin complains about laggy games ( he played Arkham Asylum, The Prototype and COD: Black Ops ) at medium settings at 720p and wants to add a gpu. please suggest a good entry level gpu @ 3-4 k for the config.

draco21

Dragon...Dragon...Dragon.
I would suggest...

MOBO: Intel DH61HO Motherboard - Intel: Flipkart.com

Intel Pentium Processor G630 - Intel: Flipkart.com

Its GPU can allow to play games at low settings....

If you can extend budget then this is your best bet
AMD A10-5800K (comes with HD 7660D Graphics) @ 8.4K
MSI FM2-A55M-E33 Motherboard - MSI: Flipkart.com

PROS: 4 cores
Nice GPU
U can add one later if you feel it is not good

Cons:Approx. 5k more cost

Anyways minimum GPU suggested for gaming is something like Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 1GB DDR5 Graphics Card - Sapphire: Flipkart.com get DDR5 version of any card.(512 MB ddr5>>1-2-3-4GBddr3)

If none are possible

PowerColor AMD/ATI Radeon HD5570 1 GB DDR3 Graphics Card - PowerColor: Flipkart.com

This should do.(Some good reviews in flipkart)

Stay away from cheap GPU's (u will find many online with 4GB VRAM blah blah blah...)

So your budget now is 24k?

if you are planning on buying 6670 or above graphics card then don't buy AMD A series processors.get a cheap ~Rs.3000 intel pentium G processor(faster than any amd dual core & more than enough for all average uses) with 6670 costing ~5000.

Naxal

Little Kid
Intel Dual Core G645 @ Rs. 3,500.00
Intel DH61HO @ Rs. 3,000.00
G.Skill Value RAM 4GB DDR3 1333MHz @ Rs. 1,100.00
WD Green 1TB @ Rs. 4100.00
DVD RW @ Rs. 800.00
Local Cabinet + PSU @ Rs. 1,500.00
22" (BenQ / Dell Full HD) @ Rs. 8,000.00
Keyboard Mouse @ Rs. 700.00
Local UPS @ Rs. 1,600.00

Should come within 24/25k

This will keep the option open for future grfx card adding, cards like HD7770 @ 7/8k can be added later on with saved money and appropriate time :D
