Bangalore: Where to get my Dell laptop serviced?

I have Dell XPS L501x. I want to have my laptop serviced. It was done two years ago, in 2012, by dell, under warranty. It's overheating and I know there's lots of dust has accumulated. Due to my heavy usage I am sure even thermal compound also has wore off.

So basically I want to have its fans, vents cleaned and apply new thermal paste. I dont know whether I should replace heat sink or not.

I thought of doing it myself, even opened half the laptop, but chickened out

So where do I get it serviced? Any recommendations?

Or tdf expert can help a brother out? Of course I will pay you

time to go DIY

buy a screwdriver set, open the laptop up.
remove the heatsink, clean the vents by blowing air.
Wipe the TIM off and apply fresh one.
reassemble the laptop

I did it myself at 1/5th of the cost the shopwala was asking for.

First thing first
check out some youtube vidieos regarding cleaning and see if you can do the same.
And you can't so check out some local shops as service center is going to charge a lot when compared to local ones. For more info where are you [MENTION=248727]seamon[/MENTION]

There must be a OEM VIDEO or MANUAL(online pdf) on how to disassemble your laptop. Every laptop has one. Check that out first. Use isopropyl alcohol only to clean computer components. You can get a 70% w/w bottle of isopropyl alcohol from your local pharmacist.

Don't rely on local thermal paste as they will do more harm than good.
Order a tube of IC Diamond from Sidewind computers. You can get it as low as 3k. You can drop temps upto 20 degrees celsius over OEM with this stuff. If you are low on budget then you can get Noctua. Avoid Arctic Silver V.

Don't replace heatsink.

I got mine serviced etc in Mumbai in a local known shop for 750 bucks
got a new custom heatsink and fan(12000rpm instead of the stock 9000rpm one),thermal paste-arctic silver i think
my temps were 90c within 2 mins of skyrim(low settings) earlier,now it doesnt cross 70c even with skyrim on high settings
I suggest a bit of DIY trial and error before giving it to local shops though,I had to change my broken display(6K ) also so I didnt get to play around much before giving it for service

Arctic Silver V is very good for desktops as sufficient pressure can be applied by the desktop heatsinks unto the core. However, not enough pressure can be applied in the case of laptops. ASV works best when the pressure is max, ICD ignores this contact type. ICD is therefore recommended and used by all laptop experts.

Personal results on GPU

ASV=94 degrees(same temps after 2 re-applications)
ICD=80 degrees.
ICD has a class of its own.


Local heatsinks may not be as good as OEM.

i have an inspiron Turbo(SE) 15R 7520
also its not a local heatsink..
its made for higher end laptops such as msi,alienware,xps etc
the stock heatsink fan goes bad very fast
