Broken In
MY configuration is ASUS P5RD1-VM motherboard with 1 GB (2 x 512) RAM, P4 3.00GHz (HT),one Seagate Baracuda 40 GB IDE HDD , one Samsung 80 GB SATA HDD,a Sony DVD writer .I don't have floppy drive. When I tried to install Windows XP on SATA HDD ( without connecting old 40 GB IDE HDD), I received "NO HARD DRIVE FOUND". THen I inastalled XP on my old 40 GB HDD. The installation was smooth , but SATA HDD was detected only after installing the chipset drivers.

1) What should I do in order to make my SATA HDD as primery drive, without using any third party utility during XP intallation ?

2) Is my motherboard SATA II compitable ?
3) How can I know FSB speed of my motherboard & RAM ?
4) I am about to purchase CoolerMaster iGreen 500 watt SMPS.
Is it compitable for my motherboard ?
5) Is it true that P4 HT consume more power & runs hotter than plain P4 processers ?

Please Help!

Thank You!!

Waiting for 3 Miracles...
I have installed on sata 160gb no problems.... try this .......
check in your bios settings if sata is set to raid change it..... then in might be detected .......... if you cannot see it in the bios you will not be able to install on it........
read motherboard manual too does it says it will need external driver then i guess you have to arrange a fdd or cd.. whatever options you find when you. ....---->during launching of windows xp setup you will be prompted to press a key to install third party driver do that and browse and give it the driver it is looking for..... but we do this drill when we use to setup SCSI drivers while installing servers.... Nowadays bioses are smart enough to handle this....

Man i sugesst you are just not looking enough for the options in your bios......
The installaion is possible and mostly quite simple....

2) .........Read Manual or feautres of the mb on BOX Does it says SATA-2 If yes it is SATA 2

3)..........Again Manual or look in BIOS you can find both RAM and CPU Speed and it is reported after POST also....... press pause if it goes away too quickly...........

4).........Cooler Master Definitely...........

5)........ Yes ..... But i donot think the difference is too much to be concerned about..... for laptop it matter for saving battery but destop no need just take care you have big airy cabinet instead of cute, slim ones...... and the original heatsink and fan supplied with cpu's have design and ability to handle the cpu's heat so no worries for you atleast.........
