NOTE : I HAD WRITTEN THIS POST ONLY TO EDUCATED USRES ABOUT OVERCLOKING AND NOT AS A GUIDE TO IMPLEMENT IT.
THEORY SEEM ATTRACTIVE BUT PRACTICALLY IT'S RISKY.

I HIGHLY DISCOURAGE OVERCLOKING FOR NEWBIES AND MODERATED PC USERS - LEAVE IT TO THE EXPERTS !!!

PART1 :

Hmm overclocking !

Well basically overclocking is increasing ur system's speed by increasing either FSB(Front Side Bus) clock , Mem Clock , CPU speed , or all.

Now FSB is a bus with which the CPU interfaces the the northbridge.

Hence the Northbirdge is window for the CPU. It is like a central data traffic controller and technically is called Memory Controller Hub i.e MCH by intel while Nvidia and AMD use other nomenclature.

Since northbirdge is so central to the system its speed is the most important factor deciding the systems speed. Hence more often the FSB is overclocked i.e set o higher clock freq than the default which in turns increases the CPU speed coz CPU's speed is derivative of the FSB base clock.

Now whats FSB and FSB base clock:
Well , firstly u may have seen on the mobo boxes that it supports 800/1066/1333/1600 and 2000 (Max). This the quad pumped speed of base FSB.
In simpler terms the base freq is multiplied by 4 to get the FSB.
Hence mobos running at 1600 Mhz FSB are having 400 Mhz base FSB clock since 400*4Mhz=1600Mhz.

Ok but whats the use of Base FSB clock ?
This base FSB is of more importance to us coz frm this we get ur CPU's speed. First of all just believe me that all the CPU's have internal clock multiplier say . M. The base FSB multiplied by this Multiplier gives the CPU speed in MHz.

Eg : For q6600 multiplier is 9 (max) and has 1066 FSB.
So if i overclock my FSB to 400 (1600 Quad pumped) then the CPU's
speed is 400x9=3600Mhz = 3.6Ghz!!!

HENCE HERE WE SAY THAT THE CPU HAS BEEN OVERCLOCKED - COURTESY OF THE FSB!
SINCE THE MULTIPLIER IS RESTRICTED(LOCKED) TO MAX VALUE OF 9 - FSB IS THE LAST RESORT TO OVERCLOCK THE CPU.

Ok go on .... tell me about overclocking RAM :

You must be knowing that we r now having DDR-SD Rams i.e Double Data Rate which in simpler terms it means that the base clock of ram is dual pumped. Hence a ram stick operating at 800Mhz has an base mem freq of 400Mhz.
Here u have to consider the FSB : DRAM ratio in terms of base clocks.

FOr eg : Say FSB is @ 1600 (base = 400) and ram @ 800 (base = 400)
in this case the FSB : DRAM ratio is 1:1 which is also known as
SYNC mode coz every thing runs synchronously. This is best
ratio when u use dual channel mode!
Other ratio is 5:4 i.e 100:80 i.e for every 100 cycles of FSB ram
is giving data only 80 times which make the system a bit slow
coz the cpu will starve out of data.
Likewise more ratios r possible.

Hmm so can i overclock my pc now ?
Ans : NO , coz u need to also know - how to adjust the diff voltages manually in BIOS which i can't explain here COZ ITS DAMN RISKY!

Next will be PART 2 ....
