AHCI Mode enabled - No S.M.A.R.T. data

I have 2 SATA HDDs, quite old but still functional. With AHCI Mode enabled in BIOS, windows based programs like crystaldiskinfo, disksmartview, gsmartcontrol etc all fail to get the SMART values. They all work fine when it's Native IDE Mode.
On Linux no issues at all, smartctl command is able to fetch SMART data with AHCI on.
I googled as well but no clear info available. If any one is aware of any solution..pl. share.

System is AMD Athlon X2 260, Gigabyte 880GM USB3 mobo, Win XP SP3. Driver ahcix86.sys provided by AMD. Thx.

Thx whitestar for the link...ya I explored further with Win 7 as well and at least there MS has provided its own AHCI driver and windows apps are able to fetch SMART data but again installing AMD driver same issue is faced. So looks like AMD AHCI driver for my mobo / chipset seems to have this flaw!
