Its for my dad...... He will use it for making calls, checking emails, browsing internet, some apps(basic ones).......... He is pretty much ready to buy Canvas HD

Why not Lava Q800 ?
It has a magnetometer and QHD to 720p.. difference isnt that much noticeable

We have MMX service centre here.......so hopefully phone will run for a year atleast

Actually he liked its display, used his friend's Canvas HD
Moreover he said that 5" screen is better for browsing & dual SIM is nice addition(suggested him L9 too)

Im not saying it wont run for a year but MMX A116 lacks a magnetometer.. That is why compass apps wont run, neither will you be able to use advanced functions of navigation app..

That's bad, but my dad would rarely use Maps..... whenever v are travelling to new places, I'm with them. So I will just use my S2

LOL so true. Though my Micromax A75 has been alive since 16 months.I hate my phone but it just refuses to die.Better to go for Galaxy Quattro than Canvas HD.

Ya so true.......
Quatrro will run for 2-3 years easily but its hardware is piece of crap.......A5 quad core ?? I think Canvas HD is better, I'm sure it will work for atleast a year.
I'm still trying to convince my father for buying Xperia L or L9

Tell your Dad that Canvas HD has an inbuilt Self Destruct Timer....Kabhi bhi Phat sakta hai hehuhahaha.
