Acer laptop help wanted

hello to fellow geeks,
i have an acer aspire 5032
with Turion processor and the goodies.
my troubles are:
1. the performance is not upto the mark due to insufficient RAM can u tell me from where and for how much i can get a 512 mb ddr @ 333 mhz stick.
2. the lap has an 8 cell Li ion battery but despite this the backup is pathetic lastin just 2- 2:15 hrs. plz help me rectify this.
3. the system heats up excessively .
4. acer has some softwares like epowermanagement and AMD has Powernow where can i get these.

1. You are right, you need some more RAM for better performance. Ideally getting 2x512MB 333 mhz DDR RAM would be preferred. I did the same with my Acer ASpire 3002, which is more or less similar to your laptop minus the turion processor and some goodies. a single 512MB 333Mhz DDR RAm for your laptop should cost you about 2.5k (Transcend)

2. Blame it on the SIS chipset. Can't really help it. The Turion ML processors have high TDP of about 35W and that doesnt help either.

3. I am not familiar with the aspire 5000 series, but generally heat is not an issue on laptops with integrated graphics. If you use your laptop for long hours as a desktop replacement, get a notebook cooler. Local makes will cost you aroun 500 Rs whereas those from Antec would set you back by a few grands. To keep the heat in check, make sure the vents are not blocked or obstructed in anyway for the passage of air and cross check if the fans start spinning sometimes. Sometimes they stop working altogether and could be a possible cause of the problem.

4. the softwares are in the driver CD which you must have got along with the laptop If you have lost it, you can google or check out acer global or acer UK website for the drivers and those applications.

I can answer the fourth one. If you are talking about Acer softwares you'll probably get them from the Acer site under Tools or Drivers section

Remove Norton if you have it, as it drastically reduces performance especially with laptops. If you LT is overheating, get it serviced and the fan + outlets cleaned.
