Question To All Hardware Specialists Out There:

Requirement: My Guruji aged 67 years a bachelor has decided to upgrade his vintage Celeron 233 Mhz computer. His only and I repeat only use of the new Computer is only for Internet Access & Web Surfing and His Budget for CPU+ Motherboard + Ram+ Hard Disk+ Cabinet + Lan Card + D Link D502T ADSL Modem + Keyboard + Mouse is Only Rs 25,000/-. He Can Salvage his old CRT monitor of 15 and UPS.

Criterion: PC Should be capable to run Windows XP Home Edition SP-2 Licensed, Norton Antivirus, Zone Alarm Free Fire Wall, MS Office XP Pirated, MS Money Pirated and Spy Bot Search & Destroy & Last For the Next 3-4 Years and also be able to run Windows Vista as & when it is released at least the base version.

Parameters: Only Celeron and Sempron Considered as Pentium and AMD Athlon Too Costly and Not Needed for the Applications. In Case of Intel Only Genuine Intel Motherboard will be fixed and in case of AMD only Sempron 2600+ Available Here with MSI K8 Neo-3 nForce4 chipset motherboard with 3 PCI Slots+ AGP+PCI Express 16x Slot.(N Force 4 Motherboard is a must)

My Choice of Hardware Considering the Cost & Usage Limitations but emphasis on stability and reliability.

1) Intel Celeron CPU 2.53 Ghz 533 Mhz FSB Socket 478-Rs 3100/-
2) Intel D865GBF Motherboard With Sound & Graphics Lan+AGP-Rs 4400/-
3) Transcend 512mb DDR Ram 400Mhz Single Channel- Rs 2450/-
4) Seagate 80gb 7200 RPM Barracuda SATA-1 HDD- Rs 2900/-
5) Sony 16X DVD Rom Drive -Rs 1450/-
6) Navtech HTNT 2688A Heat Venting Cabinet 38`Side Cut-Rs 1750/-
7) TVS Gold Cherry Keys Key Board PS-2 Type-Rs 1100/-
8) Logitech Optical Wired Scroll Mouse-Rs 500/-
9) D Link D502T ADSL Modem For MTNL Tri-Band Internet-Rs 2000/-
10) Genuine Licensed Windows XP Home SP-2 Edition-Rs 3350/-

Gross Total Expenses Rs 23000/-

The Intel D865GBF Motherboard has only been used considering the heat and fan monitoring hardware sensors on the motherboard along with intel active monitor software and also it has everything integrated like sound, video, lan and also has a agp slot with 6 pci slots. In Case On Board Video Burns out Second Alternative is available. Superb Value Indeed.

All things remaining same can some one within the above parameters suggest a better cpu + motherboard. I had Also Considered Celeron 2.26 Ghz LGA 775 With Genuine Intel D915GVWB Motherboard for Rs 8000/-(Both Included) but this motherboard has only 2 PCI slots and no Agp slot and No Heat Monitoring Software & hence is ruled out. Also Sempron 2600+ Socket 754 the Only Available Sempron here With MSI K8N Neo-3 nforce4 motherboard costs more at Rs 9800/-Combined and a agp card has to be added extra thereby increasing the overall cost but still considerable as sempron out performs the Celeron by a huge margin along with the nforce 4 chipset.

Kindly Advise if there is any special benefit in spending Rs 3350/-& using licensed windows xp home sp-2 over pirated other than support and updates from microsoft. Does the Licensed Package of Windows Contain Really a genuine version from Microsoft or is this also a cracked copy? Should I save Money on this by using Pirated Windows XP SP-2 For Rs 100/-?

Thanks. Please Advise by The 8th Of December 2005 & send e mails to Zaysen2002@indiatimes.com

and moreover if u go for the Sempron

u can the advantage of increasin the FSB to 800 mhz

which improves the overall sys performance

the config u gave would be just abt to run Vista with the minimal settings !!!

Well Members! After My Question on the Best Configuration For Rs 25,000/- I Purchased and Assembled the Below On 8th Dec 2005. Please Send Your Feed Back on the Configuration I chose for MS Office Applications Internet Surfing Via MTNL Tri-Band, E Mail, Personal Accounts, Music Hearing and Video Watching, However the Configuration Exceeded Rs 30,000/- due to the use of Licensed Windows XP SP-2 After Debating Morality and Mental Peace as Many Shops and Even Home Users Have Been Raided By the Intellectual Property Rights Wing of the Delhi Police and Pirated Software Installation has eventually vanished from the hardware Markets of Nehru Place In New Delhi.

1) Intel Celeron CPU 2.66 Ghz LGA-775 533Mhz FSB & 256kb L2-Rs 3700.00
2) Intel Original D915GAV Motherboard With Sound & Lan------Rs 4900.00 and Graphics, & Intel Active Monitor to Monitor Heat and Voltages
But On Board Graphics Disabled as it slows the system and a PCI Express Card Installed.
3) Kingston DDR 400mhz Ram 256 mb x 2 In Dual Channel mode-Rs 2900.00
4) Seagate 80gb 7200 rpm SATA Hard Disk Drive---Rs 2850.00
5) XFX Nvidia 16X PCI Express Graphics Card 128mb---------Rs 2900.00
6) D Link Internal Modem Rs 430.00
7) Samsung Floppy Disk Drive---Rs 260.00
8) Sony 16x DVD Rom Drive Only---Rs 1400.00
9) Sony 52x-32x-52x Cd Writer-----Rs 1250.00
10) Navtech HTNT LCD Temperature Gauge Side Cut 2 Fan Mounted
Cabinet With 24 Pin Power Supply Rs 1450.00
11) Philips 15 color Monitor Model 105S6( The Best)---Rs 4200.00
12) Logitech Standard Keyboard Spill Resistant---Rs 225.00
13) Logitech Optical wired Scroll Mouse----Rs 325.00
14) Microtek 600va Max Power UPS----Rs 1800.00
15) Genuine Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack-2----Rs 3650.00
Licensed Version
16) Case Cooling Fans 80mm 2 no’s With Screws----Rs 110.00

Gross Total Cost Incurred Rs 32,350.00

Users Please Note That the Price Difference Between a P4 LGA 775 CPU and a Celeron is Only Rs 1300.00 but I saved on this as this Computer Will Never be used for gaming. Members May Question then Why a PCI Express Card of 128mb Memory? This as Already Written Above to Take the Load of the Celeron CPU In Processing Graphics and Thereby Creating a Bottle Neck and Slowing the Entire System but essential for good quality DVD Movies and Pictures. I Feel the 15 Monitor Is very Cute and Portable than a bulky 17 which occupies more desk space and is a rock to move around also generates heavy heat in operation and drinks power from ups.

hmm, if there is no gaming then the graphics card was not required, but since u baught it anyway, keep it, the system is now Windows Vista ready too, which i hardly think he will use

insted of the 915GAV, U should have baught Asus P5GL-MX motherboard, that would have been much cheap & enough for his needs
