The Devil's Advocate
i know its been discussed quite a few times but still i think i ask once again

i hav a 512 ddr tight now and am planning to add 1 more ram so the question is 512+512 or 512+1gb the price difference is 1k so the performance difference should justify the cost ...

what u guys say ....

I would say,
First check if you mobo support 1gb mem in one slot. If yes,

1g +1g. Sell your 512mb.

intel says 4gb ttal ram supported which means that 2 gb per slot which means it can support 1gb in 1 slot :) btw i too am working on the same combination trying to figure out a deal with my dealer :D

You gave been GXified
3X512 MB RAM will not run in dual channel mode in your 865GBF, get a another 512 MB RAM Module for a total of 2X512 MB DDR running in Dual channel mode.

Best would be to go for 2X1GB RAM like i m running, all that u will ever need for vista

YOu didn't say that your's is Intel mobo supporting 4gigi total :)

Just kidding. Better get 2gig (for Vista)

3x512 nahi yaar .... 512+1 (1 gb module) im actually tight on budget coz im thinking of buying logitech mouse .... this 1 which is around 1.7k and 1 gb ram is for 2.4k so its overshooting the budget as it is so 2x1gb not possible

@iMAV

Just one Suggestion !!!

with little older config you wont get any huge performance jump even if you run at Dual Channel... but with Vista that extra 512 MB would matter a lot !!!

therefore Personally I would say 512 + 1024 is the one I vote for !!

thank you..

1) Are you searching for DDR ram or is it DDR2?

2) Why do you want to buy optical gaming mouse for 1.7k. Did you check Laser mice?

I am using iball laser precise mouse

Rs.800/-

Resolution: 1600 CPI
Scan Frequency: 6700 frames/sec
Acceleration: 20g

uni retractable cord: Pull Cable as much as you need to avoid clutter on your desk

iball is a company whose products im never gonna buy i bought 3 mice on 3 different occassions for 3 different pcs and they all ended up with the same problem and hanging around my neck ....

the left click and right click started acting .... click once 3 clicks happen click once no click happens click again 3 clicks happen .... no iball and i recommend no 1 waste money on it either ... even as of now for the past 3 months iv been using those iball mice with inverted click

and as far as logitech mouse is .... i like it i had first thought of getting the vx or mx cordless 1 but they are 3k and 5k so a ram and mouse in that budget makes more sense and hence the choice :)

arr. okay. This is my first iball mouse anyways, took it to use with my lappy for casual gaming. Did you check Logitech G3. I think this one's available for around 2.2k.

there is a slight problem ... my current 512 seems to be of 133 MHz acc to cpu-z and the 1 gb im getting is of 266 MHz :?

combining them will fry 133MHz RAM.

What kind of RAM is it? DDR RAM? better get either same freq ram or get rid of existing 133mhz. never heard of ddr 133 :)

forget about CPU-Z and check the frequency listed on the RAM.

I think 133x2 = 266 is the actual speed :? Check it on the RAM stick, should be written there. CPU-Z shows half here too .. Dunno why ..

For DDR ram, there is a naming convention like PC2100.

PC 2100 means Base FSB speed is 133mhz and DDR ram speed is 266mhz (a.k.a DDR266)

wtf is going on here .....

cpu-z is showing 133 MHz and there is only 1 512 stick .... its ddr ... how do i come to know the actual freq of the ram :?

ok now cpu-z ka 1 of the tab is saying max bandwidth: PC2100 (133MHz)

now desiibon ka link says pc2100 is ram speed 266 .... so my is 266 right?

don't worry.

For my lappy, I have DDR2 533. But CPU-Z shows 266 with FSB:RAM ratio set to 1:2.

Just go and get RAM that says PC2100. that will be 266MHz DDR RAM (as is your's). If you want a perfect way,

try this

1) take your lappy/cabinet to the assembler.
2) remove the RAM that you have in the lappy/cabinet.
3) insert the new 1gig module
4) boot up
5) run cpu-z
6) Is should show freq. as 133mhz with (1:2) ratio.
7) shutdown and insert the old one too.

I am pretty sure that yours is DDR266 RAM.
