instances

how to run multiple instances in oracle? using set oracle_sid=sid .. & when i say sqlplus / as sysdba... its asking password.. even i give sys and password it's not accepting... is it anything to do with os privilege? if so how to deal with it.. how to run two instances at a time?

Required for long duration works. The tasks may include anything from heavy graphics and gaming to web designing. EDIT: I'd prefer that function keys can be used with single tap at most instances if not always. I'll also be using it for transferring data (dl/ul using torrents) while sleeping...

Hi, I saw in the task manager of my PC (runnign Win2k pro SP3) that there were 3 instances of svchost.exe running. Now,I know that svchost.exe is a system process etc... Question is... Is it normal to have more than one instance of svchost.exe running on the comp? Thanks in advance
