Service or New purchase ?

I am currently using a 22" LG monitor , model no. 22MP68VQ-P , bought it 20-05-2017 . Warranty period of 3 years is over , after updating to the latest nvidia driver , lines are appearing on the task bar every 5 sec (approx) , these lines stay for 5 sec . I took a screenshot to see if it was due to video cable , but it came out fine , so may be the monitor is showing its age . Now LG has a out - of - warranty product service option available ( paid) in the website , is it advisable , given the cost of repairs or should I abandon ship and go for a new one ?

Just few lines, and you are ready to abandon ship? -_-
You can attempt to hook it up with a new LCD panel, but it's indeed costly. You should definitely try to get the cost of repairing/getting new panel installed, before thinking to buy a new monitor altogether.

its a pity that the quality of led/lcd panels seems to have degraded a lot in the recent years(especially the cheaper ones).....i have seen older 4:3 aspect ratio lcd monitors from around 2007/2008 working fine to this day-whereas new monitors seem to have a lifespan of only about 4-5 years at most.Very recently a friend of mine with a samsung monitor(purchased in 2014) reported that he is experiencing weird artefacts on the screen, indicating that his monitor is probably about to die soon!

Surprisingly though,my samsung b2030(bought in 2010) works absolutely fine to this day(fortunately). Not just me,i have seen posts by other users in fb marketplace who also own this particular model and try to sell it off, claiming that the monitor is working flawlessly.

I'd advice the OP to see if he can get this monitor repaired from an authorized service center-there's no point in getting a new monitor as there's no guarantee that it too would not malfunction after its warranty period is over, thereby forcing you to buy a new one all over again(which would be utterly futile).

I had a similar issue in Linux. The problem was that 50hz refresh rate was selected instead of 60hz, due to which it was leaving traces. Maybe try that. Did you try hooking up any other hdmi device? Does your stb support hdmi? Hook that up just to check whether the screen is at fault. If you have any other device you can use that too.

its a pity that the quality of everything seems to have degraded a lot in the recent years friend. it appears there is a new trend of use and throw after 1-5 years depending upon the item.

i got a replacement of dell in the 3rd year, i think in early 2013 which is working fine till now. then it was showing lines and patterns on the entire screen. my 17 inch CRT was repaired 2 times after which i was told sir next time just sell it to the scrap dealer. even then a junior took it away saying he will get it repaired and he used it then.

it's weird . technicians are kinda like doctors . they should be good at diagnosing the problems , so try to approach more than one technician @NeedToKnow .
I once had problem with my washing machine , one guy said it was motor problem and need to be replaced (6k estimated cost) when he replaced it , it didnt work .. got the money returned . But then another guy came out and said it was a sensor issue , replaced , worked .

my vendor never charged for any repairs of my personal systems as he was earning lot more from my referrals as he provided excellent service. actually the monitor was pretty old, repaired twice but as it was working, i didn't upgrade to a LCD / led one though asked about various models, once even brought a 24 inch dell but immediately returned as it was a different model. the CRT was used extensively for almost 10 years and i too was fed up. the person / employee who used to do the repairing said this after second repair though he was scolded by the owner when he came to know. thanks.
in 1991, head light of my kinetic honda was extremely dim for which the engineer from the factory asked me to get the magnet replaced which used to cost around rs.800. i said do it but refund me if it doesn't work even after this. he said sir we need to check after changing it. i said my condition remains the same. he slowly walked inside on the pretext of talking to someone.
later a mechanic tied two wires from battery and frame and it started shining like anything. no money charged for it.

looked into lg service website , inspection charges are 350 , panel cost unknown , repair charges 400 + 250(maybe if it requires transportation to workshop) , will try to get panel cost from them .....before booking service request

Talked to some local technicians , was told that usually cost of panel will be 70% the cost of the monitor , also likely to get no warranty

70% is too much, considering the repaired product wud not last as long as new, you shud instead consider buying new one by adding that 30% for longer life.

This may not be a hardware error. Go into BIOS. See if the issue appears there. If not time to downgrade/upgrade display driver

why not uninstall the current driver and try an older version ? First download an older version and then use DDU to remove the newly installed one and then install the older one. Also you can try a live linux distro to see if the the issue something has to do with any windows / graphic card update.

Nope , did not work out , used ddu in safe mode to uninstall , installed a driver from August , same results

Its not just cheaper ones, I replaced a 36k LG monitor thrice, because it's edges started glowing red after few months of usage.

Nowdays, longevity of monitors has decreased severely, all they do is add useless features on top. My dell IN2030M works fine (~ its 10+ years old)

Could you mention the model name so that everyone knows which model to avoid?
