Laptop for uni

1) What is your budget?
80K is the upper limit

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
I want portability. Larger screen size is not a problem, however, something thin and light is what i want.
I'll prefer a well built product that perhaps matches the build quality of Apple/XPS or at least tries to.
I would also prefer a product that looks nice. Nothing that compromises function, of course. But i don't want it to scream gamer. A muted design that could function well in professional setting is preferred

3) What are the primary tasks you will be performing with this notebook?
I will be enrolling in a MBA program soon. Primary use will be web browsing, media consumption, office and note taking. I will also be doing some coding as an extra curricular.
Personal use will be limited to Discord video calls and web browsing. I have no gaming use. I may try xCloud when/if it launches but other than that gaming laptop is a no no.

5) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for ?
SSD is a must. Can do i5 but i think Ryzen will be cheaper? Expandable RAM and SSD is preferable. No use of dedicated graphic card

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
My last product was Asus vivobook but I am encountering BSOD and other random issues that affect my quality of life. I dont want to blame Asus for QC but something a bit more reliable is what i want. Even if its from Asus

I did some research myself and these are few products i have taken to liking

Asus Zenbook 14 ux425 (ideal but i am worried if issues might pop up in future)

Link- Asus ZenBook 14 Core i5 10th Gen - (8 GB/512 GB SSD/Windows 10 Home) UX425JA-BM076TS Thin and Light Laptop Rs.98990 Price in India - Buy Asus ZenBook 14 Core i5 10th Gen - (8 GB/512 GB SSD/Windows 10 Home) UX425JA-BM076TS Thin and Light Laptop Pine Grey Online - Asus : Flipkart.com

LG Gram (a lot expensive)
Acer Swift 3 or 5

6) Anything else you would like to say?
  • Battery back up - Extended (4-5 hrs or more)
  • Purchase place - Amazon or flipkart or offline places where i can exchange my current laptop
  • I am willing to wait. Big billion day should have good offers but i think I'll be making my purchase within 2 months

Apart from the gram and swift, onyl other option I can think of is ThinkPad, you could probably find a used X1 around your budget or new E490

Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 laptop review: Affordable and fast thanks to AMD Renoir

If you are tech savvy enough, get this, buy cheap Win10 key, install it & add another M.2 SSD (confirm Lenovo about it). There's a free RAM slot as well, maybe not have a backlit keyboard (again conform it with Lenovo). Display isn't great but good enough.

Otherwise these will suffice for good out of the box experience:

Buy ASUS ZenBook 14 UM431DA-AM581TS AMD Ryzen 5-3500U 14-inch FHD Thin & Light Laptop (8GB RAM/512GB PCIe SSD/Windows 10/MS-Office 2019/Integrated Graphics/1.39 Kg), Utopia Blue Online at Low Prices in India - Amazon.in

Wait for upcoming sales, there should be more options in market.

For a rough guide, CPU performance is like this: R7 4700U > R5 4500U > i7/i5 or R7/R5 3000 (U CPUs or something like that i5 1035G4)

Thank you so much. E14 looks really nice but the screen will be a slight issue.
I'll wait for the sale. If nothing, I'll just buy E14.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but would the newly launched MSI modern 14 make sense?

Granted i am ready to compromise with horrendous I/O selection, would this laptop be appropriate for me?
Also, if anyone could shed some light on MSI products and its after service.

Looks good actually

There's review for Intel model as well:
MSI Modern 14 A10RB Laptop Review: Lighter than it Looks

Even if that 55k model has a 60-70% sRGB display like the negative reviewer says, its on par with most competition. It surely ain't as reliable as ThinkPads & MSI doesn't have as good after sales as Lenovo.

Seriously? It's overpriced as hell. HP Omen with superior R5 4600H & GTX 1650Ti costs same. OP wants something thin & light, so these gaming laptops are out of the race.
I suggested Lenovo over HP because Lenovo laptops can be customised that's why.

Bruh.

Nobody should prefer i5 10300H over R5 4600H which is better than i7 9750H and even on par with i7 10750H.
