Do you like the full body holepunch/notch displays when watching videos & playing games?

I personally feel they ruin the symmetry especially in landscape videos & playing games. How is the UX when video content/game controls or text goes under the selfie camera or content towards the screen's corners get trimmed?

I would rather not have a notch like my S8 does & live with a forehead upfront. But considering such design is considered obsolete, I'd pick a central holepunch but will need an option to use that top area just for notification bar, preferably always black, with videos & games not using that area (I think games avoid that area by default, but videos don't).

Another good design idea I liked was putting selfie cam at bottom chin, like Mi Mix did. Phone still have a substantial chin.

I think we have gone too far with these holepunch displays.
When we already have the tech for putting camera below display, I think these screen destroying displays should just become obsolete.

Last I read, under-display cams have lower quality & results in bit blurry pics, so they are sorting those stuff out. Again I think it is possible only on OLEDs, not LCDs (not 100% sure), like in-display FP reader. Hopefully we will see some phones with it later this year or next year, the first phone might be from Oppo/Vivo.

Completely agree. I would rather watch video on a 3 years old "supposedly ugly phone" with thick borders & no notch compared to latest slim design phone with notch/punch-hole.
Yeah. My 3 year old white Lenovo Vibe K5 Note with a black border around the 16:9 display. It's like a mini LCD TV when it comes to videos & games.

It will be better if there is an option to set the aspect ratio of the display atleast for preferred apps (mainly videos & games) so that the display fit within the 'rectangular' portion of the display. My new Redmi Note 9 Pro has an option to hide the notch. Had there been an option to disable hiding of the navigation keys (so that they will stay on screen similar to phones with hardware navigation keys) the problem will be solved right?

Are these full body notch/holepunch displays along with high MP multi cameras unnecessarily adding the cost of a smartphone especially budget to mid range)?

No, in fact they made it possible to launch slimmer phones with more screen space in same price range as moving the camera to notch saves on space.

The notch or punch holes are barely noticeable after a while, you get used to it. I'd definitely choose punch hole design over bezels for the extra screen space, and ironically even over full screen displays, because then the selife camera would be in some moving mechanish which is i feel a risky proposition.

I could never get used to notch. As for popup selfie camera I may be use it once a week & even in the worst case scenario of its mechanism failing I don't consider it a big con compared to full screen display.

For people like you & me, I doubt the pop-up notch would fail even after 4-5 years. They claim to test it well, like 3-4 lakh cycles of operation. So it might not fail so easily even at hands of someone who uses selfie cam multiple times a day.
