To upgrade or not to ?

My current setup is now 6 years old. Ram is a few years newer.

Intel i3 3220
intel dz76ml-45k - MOBO
8gb kingstaon 1866mhx ram

I can't decide whether I should upgrade or not. On one hand its 6 years old, on the other hand it handles everything. Even 'red dead' and Control . But upgrading will improve framerates. But I don't really need it. But its now 6 years old. But it would be hard to find buyers. and on.
Thoughts? What would you do ?

What resolution, settings and framerates are you aiming for? If current setup is able to do that there is no need to upgrade. If not, you'd need a new config. i3 3220 is 2C/4T processor and ~8 year old on top of that. You'll be better off re-purposing that as an HTPC running linux on a ~120 GB ssd. If you still want to sell it off, I'd pay you max 4-5k for that config.

If you are happy about how it is handling tasks, forget about it being 6 years old. If you get now, in 2 years that too will be old. You might get the same configuration in some Diwali sale by the end of the year if you manage to hold on. By that time better hardware too will be available.

how can you run red dead on old pc what resolution and graphic setting?
With a decent GPU . avg 33fps at balanced settings according to benchmark.
Another thing one my mind - coronavirus . The whole export, logistics could take a hit and prices may go very high for some time.

Not sure about this but ssd prices are confirmed to increase(maybe by up to 40%) even before corona virus.

Maybe save money & buy towards the end of the year when newer CPUs from Intel & AMD are out in the market. Say ~30k will get you an R5 4600 + B550 mobo + 2x8GB DDR4 RAM towards the end of the year, will be a great upgrade. With drop in prices of R5 3600, you can get a good upgrade for 20-25k maybe?

Which GPU do you have right now?

New GPUs are on the way as well.

CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 1600 - 8.5k

Mobo - Asrock B450 Pro4 ATX - 7k*

RAM - 2x8GB DDR4 3000MHz - 4.7k

GPU - Asus RX580 4GB - 10.5k

SSD - Kingston A400 480GB 2.5″ - 3.8k

HDD - WD/Seagate 1TB - 3k

PSU - Corsair CX550 - 4.5k

Cabinet - Cooler Master/Antec/corsair mid tower ATX - 3k

Monitor - LG 24MP59G 24" 1080p 75Hz Freesync - 9.5k

Total - 54.5k

@anupam_pb Thanks, but I am not looking to spend that much. Have all the rest, only mobo+cpu+ram upgrade

It'd be better to buy a R5 1600 AF since you already have a GPU instead of 9100F. 4Core CPUs are not recommended for "future-proofing" your gaming rig.

Looks wayyy better than the intel offering. Old generation, but I don't really care. Price / performance is bang on! Thanks a lot.
Could pair it with a cheap MSI mobo for Rs. 3500 . The only mobo feature I care is reliability ;)

Total 8200 + 3500 + 3000 for 8Gb - 15k . @SaiyanGoku Has also offered to buy old rig for 4-5k. I think I will upgrade :) .

Ryzen 1600AF is not available in India & whenever it does, rest assured its pricing will be much closer to ryzen 2600 & higher than ryzen 3500. Also don't buy cheap MSI mobo(or for that matter any mobo less than Buy Online ASRock B450M-HDV AM4 AMD Promontory Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - in India for 5.4k) if you care about reliability when running a 6 core processor to its full capabilities.
