Hi guys, been following this forum for over 2 years. Finally decided register and join :-D I need help in deciding a PC for my cousin who is an Animator.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans:photo Editing,Animation Software Like Maya,Movies and Gaming(He wants to play GTA 5 especially)

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans:50k excluding monitor and speakers.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans:No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans:Windows 7/8.1/10

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans:1 TB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans:He wants to buy Dell U2415.( 24" size,16:10 aspect ratio, resolution 1920 x 1200)

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans :Dont want to buy monitor, speakers, mouse and keyboard.Prefer components from companies with good After sales support.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:Next Month(August)

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:No but want to build this one.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:Bangalore.Prefer buying online(Flipkart and Amazon) but ready to buy from B&M shops.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:System must be future proof in processing-wise for 4-5 years.Must be able to run GTA 5 smoothly in med-high settings.(He worked on some cut-scenes of the game)

Thanks in advance.

Thanks rijinpk1 and bssunil.

Have few queries.

1)How much is the difference in performance between i5-4590 and i5-4440 ?Should I get whichever is cheaper?

2)Stock cooler not sufficient ?

3)Whats the power supply the asus 960 graphic card needs 550w or 650w?I dont how to calculate the wattage required.
'
4)How is NZXT Phantom 820 cabinet? My cousin liked it's looks.

TIA:)

1) Not much difference between i5 4590 & i5 4440 so go which ever is cheaper.OK.

2) No stock cooler not sufficient for Haswell & Indian Summers.OK.

3) NZXT 820 alone costs 17.5k buddy and your budget is only 50k?

Stick with what I suggested:

bssunil Thanks for the clarification. Didn't know about NZXT 820 price. Will stick to your config recommendations.:)
rajesh00 This PC will be for my cousin's personal use and he said he wont be using Maya much. Thanks for your input though.

Will post the pics once the parts are bought and assembled:-D

AMD FX Series has no upgrade path. So sticking with Intel is right way to go in case of Processor.

He don't need upgrade Atleast for 3+ years or even more.By that time new tech will come. For applications my choice would be AMD and it will perform close or equal to i5

More gaming Intel.More application work AMD.

^^ Read somewhere in some forum that the number of motherboard options is more with the intel than amd processors...so in future say in 3 years.. the motherboard goes kaput and he does not want to upgrade the processor just because of lack of motherboard.Wont that be a problem ? I don't have any prejudice against AMD,but Intel looks like a better option.

I suggested AMD because he Mentioned about Maya which need more cores and experts suggest AMD processor for 3D/Anim Appl.
I don't think after 3 years or so,anyone want to upgrade only processor.Who knows Chipset might also change.

Between, the rig which comes in his budget will last easily more than 3 years. Why worry about the future. Who knows he might want to buy 2L rig after 1 year. :)

AMD has a new chipset and processor that will be released in 2016 by the name AMD Zen CPU (AM4 Socket) 14nm with DDR4 RAM supporting. So AMD FX is at the End of its Life(EOL). Its better to go with Intel for now or wait until 2016.Ok.

AMD will also be releasing Artctic Island GPU's 16nm in 2016.

Arguing this doesn't make sense now as he told he wouldn't do much Maya.

Moreover its not what/when new processor come.Even Intel is going to release new processor coming year with new chipset. So it doesn't make sense.
I think in Aug Skylake will be released, but its hardly 5% gain over haswell and more power efficient.

It all depends on what you do.If gaming is only thing you want then even i3 will do good too.
Yesterday,i bought Core i5 4440.I just do browsing, gaming and simple application work. Its so fast that i feel like its an overkill.

I went for i5 because its my final build. It will last me until its dead. Technology is moving so fast, you wouldn't think of replacing components in near future.Probably you don't even find components.

2)Stock cooler not sufficient ?

well you're not going to overclock and even considering the summers , the cpu temps going to be just fine ( if the room temps under 50 c :-D ) ; so relax ,stock cooler of intel will be sufficient ..
