I dunno if it is the FUP for Cellular data or something...but here is Switzerland, I'm paying like 5 francs for 250mb(330rs).....certainly I miss the pricing of airtel....no matter how bad the connection is..

How much do you earn ?
Don't equate the currency there to here directly. That's how you see all things costly abroad no matter how much you earn.
I earn nothing, I'm doing an internship here, and only my stay and food is sponsored. I don't see things "costly", rather not so naively. Prices of electronics in Switzerland are cheap, and I accept that fact, otherwise everything is expensive.
Why is everything else expensive there ?
I know what you are getting at, that "because people earn more". But in the end, it's same. A Phd student here earns on average of 4000 francs, spends 2000 on housing etc, 1500 on other things like food and stuff, and rest is 500 francs in hand(excluding taxes), if one can manage budget well. Then again, a Phd student in India may get up to 40K from various grants, still the figure will be same. No, it's expensive here because even the natives feel so.
The simplest answer is because wages are commiserate (commensurate) with the cost of living. Paying employees a livable wage means that the costs of goods must reflect that expense.
The check-out lady at my local grocery store earns enough money to save up for a trip to Thailand every year and stays there for 10-14 days each time. Tram and bus drivers here make a wage that is higher than most starting engineers in the States, and certainly more than most public school teachers there as well.
This in turn means that people have not only enough money to pay their bills, invest in their pensions, and feed and clothe their kids, but also enough to then pump money back into the economy by making spontaneous and planned purchases in the market place.
Found a question on Quora
Why is cost of living so high in Switzerland? - Quora
But....aren't we deviating from the thread topic ?
Can fork this to another thread in Chit Chat section
Super Moderators and their powers xD.
Anyways, I'm quite content with the living here. It is because of the local government I can do my internship for free.
So that means you have to only bear the living expenses ? Which I think will be higher. But then the services (transportation etc) will be top class too.
Will be nice if others who chime in too who are living overseas for a while.

Good to know.
I am non-veg, so food was one of best thing in New Zealand. Could fill my daily calories for the day with just 9-12 dollars of healthy food.
Another cool thing was that I never lost any parcels coming from outside of New Zealand. Generally people were quite honest.
However, did have an instance where someone broke into my mail box at ground floor and stole the item I had ordered. Well...there are people like that everywhere. But the cool thing was that building manager gave me the snapshots from the CCTV camera and cooperated handling the matter with police. No bribe involved.
Note: Finally post title is changed to thread title. On track
Edit: People...now that's a difficult question actually. I have been to French and Italian part of Switzerland, but I am not so sure about the German part. Honestly, I think the Italian part is most friendly, French side is a little bit okay, but it is more lively in terms of cities. German side, from my brief stay there, is totally professional, people will great you, but won't prefer to talk much.
