Exynos 5422 vs Snapdragon 801

The Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE was recently launched in India at a price of 50K.This phone is the Snapdragon variant and hence supports LTE. The Exynos variant of the Galaxy S5 is already available in the market for 35K.

Now this phone is on my "To consider" list and I was wondering about, what the difference was between both chip-sets as both phones are identical in every aspect besides the chipset.

I found a very good comparison online in this article.

Octa-Core Samsung Galaxy S5 Performance Review - TechSpot

Observations:-

Exynos :-

1. Better CPU and browser benchmark performance

2. Mali T628 GPU performs equivalent to the Adreno 330 in some benchmarks but lags behind a lot in some others.

3. Battery life is almost similar to the Snapdragon variant.

Snapdragon :-

1. Better GPU(Adreno 330) benchmarks but almost the same real world performance

2. Better NAND read and write speeds

3. Slightly better battery life

Few other observations

1. Exynos 5422 scores higher in Antutu benchmark than SD801 powered HTC One M8

HTC One M8 Review | Digit.in

2. Exynos uses the Wolfson DAC which known for its legendary sound output whereas SD801 uses a normal Qualcomm DAC

3. SD801 supports LTE(4G) whereas the Exynos 5422 doesn't

4. Exynos doesn't enjoy SD801's wide custom dev support.

5. Currently the Exynos variant sells 15K cheaper than the SD801 variant but sells at the same price as the HTC One E8 which has an SD801 as well.

All in All, I would say that Exynos variant is good buy for the people not looking for 4G, what do you think ?

Cheers!

from my experience, exynos is inferior to the snapdragon and has issues with roming etc
it isnt bad or something the way people exaggerate about it but it should perform decently i guess though the snapdragon is a better option

Choice is simple
If you want dev support (lots of roms and kernels to try out) the go for the snapdragon version eyes closed else get G900H.
15k is no small difference, sure new ES 3.0 games will run better on adreno and benchmarks will put sd 801 at slight advantage however i don't think there'll be much of a noticeable real world difference between the two.

well, i am going to buy galaxy s5 exynos this month end if all goes well with my financial planning, i'll surely come here to tell what 's what in exynos, and shoud you buy it or not if its on ur consider list..

I was very much against s5 exynos in start but after lots of info i gathered on internet i find it the best deal as a top end smartphone, considering lg g3 has a washed out display and is way too pricy for me at 49k, and xperia z2 has serious heating issues + the camera still image quality is inferior than s5.
and i dont like the looks of htc m8 hardware wise and interface wise. so best option for me is galaxy s5 as iphone 5s 64gb is 70k.....

P.S. for exynos reviews look out for gogi and geekyranjit channels on youtube.com, they do tell a lot of story...

i think the Z2 is a safe buy, overheating etc is normal in nearly ever great camera phone
even the pureview sensor in lumias heat up sometimes just like the exmor sensor found on the xperias but its not really an issue because the photos these phones take are extraordinary photos and it doesnt disrupt the phone

heres a list of problems and solutions

first time i have read someone liking galaxy design and UI more than Htc design and Sense UI

anyways its a personal preference .. if you aren't budget restricted since you were going for Z2 i would say wait a month .. new wave of phones will launch in just about a month

you could buy xperia z3 ,Samsung Galaxy F/s5 prime , HTC one refresh , wait for Snapdragon 805 it will be a big upgrade ,.. no point in spending 40-45k now on exynos/SD801 when sd805 is launching soon..

I visited a local Samsung store today here in Dwarka,Delhi.

The guy quoted me a price of 38k for the SGS5(Exynos) and was willing to knock off 10k in exchange for my old LG OG .Now 28K is a ****ing awesome price for the SGS5

Also, SGS5 has a few advantages over the HTC ONE E8.

1. Much Better Camera

2. Dust and Water proof( with certifications)

3. Fingerprint and Heartbeat sensor( mainly gimmicks but the more you get.....)

yeah plus after the lumias and xperias, the GS5 and GS4 have excellent cameras
especially the colours, they come out very vibrant in the GS4 and GS5
the GS5 has its gimmicks but its well built and future proof, plus being a popular device, support(official and unofficial) is surely gonne be there
a good example is the galaxy s2,i still have friends using the phone and have the latest roms etc

Sold my S3 for 15k and bought an Exynos powered S5 yesterday, for 33k from Authorised Samsung Smartfone cafe..Strangely,the bill was made of Rs.49900. Also had a look at the Snapdragon 801 powered S5(priced at 49900 in the store)
Samsung has stopped the Offer where the user got one free screen replacement in a year. Instead they now have a scratchcard system, which has multiple gifts inside, including a 100% cashback offer. I got 40% cashback. Now this cashback was calculated on bill amount, so I got Rs.20k from the offer. So, at the end of the day, I got a brand new S5 and was at a profit of 2k.

Price of S5= Rs.32,800
(-)Buyback S3= Rs.15,000
(-)Cashback = Rs. 19,960
_________________________
Amount Earned= Rs. 2160
Only if I knew that I was going to be that lucky, I would have gone for the 4G version. But I am not complaining, as the 20k I had saved for S5 will now be used to mod my CBR :-D

My observations.
1. Exynos Scores higher in both Antutu(37995) and Quadrant(25900) benchmarks.
2. Sound output of headphones felt better as compared to Snapdragon version.
3. Snapdragon was heating way too much during benchmarking.
4. Camera load times felt snappier in the Snapdragon version

I was surprised to find a Note 3 with a small sticker reading " Qualcomm 4G" in the store, tucked away in a corner. Was it launched in India??

MAN !...YOU ARE ONE LUCKY ******* !!!!

Anyways, congrats on your purchase :). I just wanted to ask this, How did you get the exchange offer and the scratch card both on the purchase of one phone.

Also the guy in the Samsung store near my house knew about the exchange offer but he didn't say anything about the scratch card.

I wonder, Is this scratch card thing running in specific areas only.

Cheers!

My earlier post is a bit unclear. Let me clarify this- I sold my S3 on Quikr to a gentleman who required a donor S3 for parts. Since my S3 was in scratchless condition, he was more than happy to get it. The Samsung store was quoting 13k for the same.

All samsung cafe's in Ranchi are running this scratchcard system. The gifts were also branded as Samsung, so I guess, its not a regional thing.
