Problems with new Altec VS 4121 speakers

Hi guyz. I bought brand new VS 4121 Yesterday. When i setup the speakers, and turned it on, the soud was great but the majority of the sound comes from the downfiring part of the speaker and as a result the sound i hear s like muffled . i have placed the speakers only few meters apart(very close to my 20" monitor). I wanna know

1. Are my speakers faulty.
2. IS my position of the speakers wrong?

I even tried meddling with settings of the treble, bass etc but no help ! How can i test the speakers and find that its not faulty !

Any VS4121 owners please shed light

are the 3.5mm cables properly connected? how muffled is the sound. usually, these speakers need some time for burn in.

ya, i triple checked the 3.5 mm cables connection. And the muffled sound is like when u cover the audio source with the hand or cloth, the sound seems to be weird right. i am getting such sound from the brand new speakers !

hmm. better take the set to the seller and ask for immediate replacement.
