Not sure if its hardware issue or software issue but posting it here.

I Bought a new system P5B dlx mobo c2d 6300 processor I want my old pata hdd which has xp installed along with softwares to be used with new system but the service engineer said not this wont work as the mobo is changed & processor is different, basically he said that it will curropt windows & wont work, we tried doing it & it did not work , but the 1st problem was more due to mobo not fitted properly.

Then it worked but the display is not showing at all it boots & shows P5B boot screen & just goes blank. I dont get any error or BSOD but it does not boot in to xp.

Do I need to installl fresh on new HDD since the mobo is chnaged, is there a way out? Basically I want to trash the old comp & migrate to new one but keep the hdd or clone it to the new sata2 hdd using arconics true image.

any help please.

Yah, that's the only option u have. Install Windows all over again.
The previous installation of Windows was done according to ur old mobo Configuration.
But, as the mobo is changed, as well as the processor u have to setup windows again.
As u have a Sata harddisk, alongwith a pata one, the Sata will remain the master, unless u configure it.

Try this

Uninstall all the drivers like VGA, sound etc. from the OS (using ur old system) & now connect it with new system & repair windows using WinXP bootable CD. Now if u can boot with OS then install the drivers of new mobo.

Reinstall the OS & drivers (with new system) if ur prob doesn't get solved by above method.
I have tried the above method successfully for a system in my friend's computer shop.

Rebooting
well microsoft Windows ToS and ToC doesnt allow u to do so...

u have buy a separate OS for a new System (if there is a chang in Procy+Mobo...)...

its allway recomended to Re-Install in these cases...

You can try using recovery utility to solve your problem, if it works it saves a lot of time and effort than a fresh install

1. Insert and fix the HDD properly
2. Insert the Windows XP Setup CD in the tray, put it in and start PC
3. Choose to boot up from CD instead of HDD by pressing Esc, F8 or F12 (depends on computer, try all if not sure) and select your CD drive from menu
4. After the setup completes all the pre checks, you'll get three options. Press R to bring up the repair option.
5. You'll be shown the Windows XP installations, choose the one you want to boot to and press R
6. It will ask for your Windows XP CD key which you need to enter. A fresh copy of XP will overwrite your old XP installation while your old data in the HDD will remain intact. Follow as the menus instructed and it will be working after the repair is complete.

It will probably solve your driver incompatibility issues. I can't provide screenshots as I haven't got them but you need more details/help, post here. If it doesn't work at all, you probably need a fresh reinstall.

If you have OEM restore CDs instead of Window XP install CDs it could be a problem though. You can use your OEM keys in a Windows XP CD installation though, if you have an alternative XP installation CD and the OEM key.

Ok so if I remove the sata & connect the pata disk only then it should work I guess, will try doing that.

I bought XP non oem cd 4 years ago & have activated only once in last 4 yrs, I remember reading that I need to deactivate my licence from old comp & then I need to reactivate on my new comp which is fine except that I dont want reinstalling all software again , its going to take 4 -5 days to configure them all, not all software come with profile save option such as FF2, install on 1 comp, configure ur extension , backup & now recover ur FF 2 profile on any computer.

I found this useful link to migrate data to another computer but I guess it assumes that you have fresh installed ur xp/vista & then migrate the installed applications. Surely corporate users wont sit down with new machines installing all OS & applications to 100s of machine in their office, they do use some kind of cloning tools & migrate the data to multiple comps.

Corporate users use strategies for efficient software management like OS Virtualisation or else deployment of OS keeping the hardware consistent across all machines to prevent driver problems.

Your method worked perfectly fine & it installed to new comp fine but strangely the booting became too slow & I finally decieded its better to have a fresh install from the CD & now downloading autopatcher for all the updtaes.

Thanks for ur help.
