xp assigning random drive letters

I converted from FAT32 to NTFS & updated to SP2.
SP2 messed up my system & had to be uninstalled, since then I am getting random drive letters.
My CD drive letters get exchanged with my hard drive partitions.
I set the drive letters manually reboot all becomes normal, but the next few reboots again its reset & show me exchanged drive letter.

What's gone wrong with XP, how to stop this behaviour.

Its happening because of NTFS partitions.
Not a problem but if u want that after u set the partitions letter manually, they should not change, then u can do one thing!

Right-click on My Computer icon on desktop and select Manage, it'll open a new window, then click on Services and applications -> Services and in right-pane, serach for a service named Logical Disk Manager and set it to Manual ( by right-clickng on it and select Properties and set Startup to Manual ).

I have done what you suggested.
Will post the results after few reboots, hope this solution fixes it.

I reassigned the drive letters & did what you suggested.

1st reboot the problem remained as it is, xp assigned drive letters.

2nd reboot the same problem

3 rd reboot the same problem

What happens if I delete all letters from drive & without re assigning reboot the comp will XP assign in an order??
Need any further suggestion.

Is it possible that the system is somehow treating the CD drive as a hard drive... try uninstalling the cd drivers, shutting down and removing the cd drive from your computer and then starting winxp... you should now get all your hd partitions in right order. Then, shut down the system and attach your cd. When you restart, hopefully, you will not face the problem again. If it reappears, try to switch between Primary Slave and Secondary Master setting (If currently CD is PS, set it as SM and vice versa)...

If all else fails, try reinstalling XP....
