Well, look for yourself. Apple never leaves a chance to downplay there lifeline. Despite of what Jobs said in D : All things digital
Live text can be found on Macrumorslive.
Video of Jobsnote will be available by tomorrow (indian time) on Apple.com. Do keep in mind that Apple.com will be hammered for 2 days easily due to many users trying to watch it.
Oh well, it is over. So much for the secret feature that El Jobso announced last year.
1) Games on Mac, good for Mac users. Now even macboys will know why we like upgrading out computers . God of gaming industry John Carmack was there. But hey, that did not presented anything new. Mac already had OpenGL games for Mac. This just means developers will port there games to Mac, just not all like they used to. Those which are Pure DX 9/10 will need quite some time to be ported. Anyway, porting games isn't that hard in 2007, at least an OpenGL port will be there.
Arya, finally your X1600 will be used for something it was meant for
2) New desktop, hmm....took an idea from Stardock & Vista it seems . Stacks looks like another rip of a Mac app which shows content of a folder in a HUD. But anyone, at least they are using WPF....i mean Core Animation . The implementation of HUD in Mac is a welcome feature. This is how a new feature called stack looks like
3) New unified look all over just like iTunes. Anyone using Mac OS X here can get that using UNO 1.51 for Mac right now
4) Still not enough finder enhancement, just a visual treat for those UI licker. Coverflow right in finder to show all your files, images, videos like iTunes Coverflow. Well, like I said before, Mac: All looks. Thats all. i wonder how coverflow makes managing files easier.
This is how the new finder looks like. Don't get it confused with iTunes
5) Finder still has no cut option
6) Another new Finder integrated function is Quick Look lets you open up previews of most common document types without opening the respective app, and unsupported doc types can be added through extensions. Hmm...did someone copied a feature Windows Vista's Windows Preview :-" or Linux Live Thumbnails in UBUNTU . Oh well....Sidebar finally has option to dock sections. "Search for" is again something copied from Vista's Live Folders.
Apple Mac OS X leopard Desktop webpage
7) Apple.com's look is changed after 6 years. Now it looks Aero-ish, i mean black.
8 ) Leopard page updated
9) Jobs : First mainstream OS to go fully 64-bit. 1 version of Leopard for 64-bit and 32-bit apps. Good, you are just 3 years behind Windows XP X64 & 8 months behind Windows Vista X64
10) Time waster, I mean Time machine. Finally Mac users can backup automatically. Well, Windows users have been enjoying this already since Windows server 2003 or if we take system restore into account, even before that.
11) Another new feature to Mac, Windows Presentation foundation....I mean Core Animation. Damn, it looks so similar that I got confused
12) Integrated Boot camp to support Lifeline...I mean Windows XP/Vista. Still no support to run Windows Application natively like using WINE or Crossover. Apple, how hard it is to support the Mono Project?
13) Yahoo Wid....I mean Dashboard :Ywan:, same old boring thing. A new feature though is that you can make your own widgets using Webclip.
14) Virtual Desktop...I mean Spaces. one thing innovative, we can drag & drop applications from one Space to another
15) Outlook 2007...I mean Windows Live Mail desktop...woops I mean Apple Mail.app. Featuring Notes, todo & other technologies which we "other OS" users are using since 2005
16) iChat....grr....can't they just use Adium by default. Come on Apple, Pidgin source code is free to use. Still no support for anything other then .mac or AIM
17) Safari 3.0, which is also coming to Windows. Wow, Apple already proved that they suck when it comes to making applications for Windows & just what we needed, another resource hog Web browser (After firefox, Apple ever heard of WPF & .net 3.0, use that plz)
