Your PC stands still!!! WOW man! Please post some pics of it.

I can't believe it, a PC that can actually stand! Seems like we are rapidly moving closer towards Cyberworld. LOL!

P.S.- Sorry! Couldn't resist! :p

1) reboot. f8, use last known good configutration, else
2) do a system restore to a previous point, else
3) go into safe mode check ur pc for malware infection (scan for av and anti-spy). also use ccleaner to clear pc junk. esp clear up ur prefetcher. though ur application startup time is hit, ur PC starts faster with AN EMPTY prefetcher.

reboot in normal mode and revert.

if things stl dont work out post ur 'hijackthis' logfile here'
also its quite posbl maybe some of ur startups are conflicting/creating issues.

Just repair ur WinXP using WinXP bootable CD.
Just boot ur system with WinXP CD, and press 'R' during installation (when will b asked to press R for repairing WinXP.)

Ive faced the same prob

in my case the antivirus(Macfee) and the (download Acc.) download manager was the culprits.

if recently you have installed any software which starts on start up
try removing them from safemode

hope may solve your probs.

What is your system config? what softwares are you running? What all have you tried?
without more data its difficult to find a culprit [forget solution]
Some general solns:
> run an antivirus scan in safemode
> see if cpu fan is working properly/ ensure proper air flow/ check overheating
>make HDD first boot priority.
>remove recent updates and patches. [actually do this first]
finally if this dosnt help. format the partion on which xp is installed and then reinstall.

ok dude...it can be what duke said...so open run type 'msconfig' go to startup and delete unesessary entries..
but my bet is on your ram....remove it,and clean the connection points with rubber...then put it back and reboot...
