Broken In
I have Dell dimension 8200 - 1.8 G, 256 MB RDRAM, 40 GB HDD
I have 3 partitions. With windows 2000 professional in D (logical) drive
and tried to install Windows XP home edition (Trial version)
in primary drive - C. But after the initial steps, during installation
phase- it goes on for ever. ie. the CD-drive is being read but nothing else
happens. It shows that it may approx. 39 minutes, but even after 5 hours
still it shows the same status. Only the screens(shown during installation)
keep changing.
What could be the problem ? When i tried to take the CD from the drive, the
system promptly shows a error message and restarts, asking for the XP CD.
Again the same thing happens.

C Drive has about 9 GB. I formatted before trying to install XP.

HUH?
The query has nothing to do with pirated or licenced.
That will come in the picture after installing Xp
He cant install from the winxp bootable installation disk
maybe the cd has straches an etc and is damaged because
setup is having problems reading from the dsk.
Get a new copy and install and anyway if ur getting another
copy then get a newer version with service pack 2 preinstalled.
