I recently re-installed WInXP on my PC. Now some of the applications (even if I try some setup files I had downloaded) that used to work without a hitch earlier, give me the following error message on being double-clicked:
Message WIndow Heading:- 16-bit Windows Subsystem
Contents: - E:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt.The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and
Microsoft Windows Applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Choices: - Close Ignore

What could the problem be?

@funnyguy_nm:
copy the file autoexec.nt from the location c:\windows\repair to c:\windows\system32

and reinstall the software/applications/games you want to try.

NOTE: please dont restart computer before installing anything otherwise you will get the error again.

Thanks for the very quick replies(within a day!!) - let me try out all the suggestions in the post alibi_8 suggested.
Sorry, I guess I should have searched all the pages before starting my own post-topic - I think it's just that everyone thinks his problem is so unique javascript:emoticon(':)')
