Windows trouble

i m using winxp sp2 .from a few day when i shutdown my pc it restarts.
its not a hardware problem cause i m confirmed.its something with registry.
need help plzzzzz

inspite of clicking on shutdown, try this
open run>write "shutdown -s"
if this works then problem with ur registry.
not sure how to solve this, but i will try to find out.

your system may be infected by some virus. Try to shut down your system once in safe mode.

i tried it but even now it restarts.
it means its a virus.
avast is not detecting it.
can some one help
