windows not loading local profile

While starting windows xp prof. it says " windows cannot load your local profile because it may be corrupted. contact your local administrator" and then " windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with the temporary profile. Changes you make to the local profile will be lost when you log off". Sure, I am losing all the changes i make to the desktop.

Solution please.
