I've got a pc with MSI K8 MM-V mobo, 40 gb 7200 RPM Hitachi PATA HDD(which I bought a few weeks back), 128 MB RAM, amd sempron 2600+ processor running Windows 98. The problem is that when I run everest home edition, it reports that my hard disk is running at Ultra DMA-2(ATA-33) ,when the maximum supported is Ultra DMA-6(ATA-133).How can I solve this problem? Also, when I try to apply desktop themes, the Desktop themes window just hangs. How can I prevent this?
And can anyone give some tips how to run Win 98 faster ??(I don't want to install XP as the config is very low end)

Also, what updates does Win 98 unofficial Service pack 2.01 and 2.1a come with ??

First and foremost you should not use themes. It will considerably slow down your pc. Use softwar like system mechanic regularly. Go to add remove program mes and remove unnecessary programmes and components from your pc. regularly defragment your drives. I think if you are rligiously follow the above, your PC will work like a charm. I followed the above method for many years running win98 and I rarely had a crash.

Alive Again...
I'll suggest u to just add 1 more 128MB RAM
it'll cost u around Rs. 700 & upgrade to WinXP
i too have nearly matching config of my lap running WinXp Home Edition
i think their is no prob with rest of ur Hardware
WinXP will solve many of ur these types of prob
Win98 has many prob
otherwise
What Rama said is absolutely correct
