^Two posts by you on Windows 7 Ultimate freezing and I presume that you have resolved both by tracing them to a faulty video driver installed by Windows 7 update.
to Desiibond for his spot-on diagnosis.
Tip for those installing Windows 7:
While installing Windows 7, at one point it goads you to automatic updates. Say no and choose to decide later.
First time you choose to update, it prompts you to choose the way you want it to be done.Choose "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". This allows you to view all the available updates for you to choose. When the critical and important updates show any driver/s, exercise caution, especially if it is a video driver.(Prefer to update it from the manufacturer's website)
While Windows 7 brings out the right driver updates most of the time, it is not 100% infallible. Choose to update only if you are unable to locate the latest updated drivers from the manufacturer's website.
Even if you opt for the Windows list, update only one driver at a time. Since Windows creates a restore point before every update install, you may restore it to the preinstall state if you find that the update has mucked up your system.
In my case, For my BSNL EVDO data card, Windows 7 wanted to install the driver update for Reliance EVDO Data card. I said no and hid it from showing up anytime. (Reliance also uses the same ZTE AC8700 800M modem, but there may be differences in the set up). I went to the ZTE website where driver for Reliance and driver for BSNL are listed seperately. Downloaded the one for BSNL and installed.
