If you have an slightly old computer lying about, want a good OS to run on it, but are not yet ready to give Linux/BSD a try, you still have an option.
Guide to running Windows 2000 on a 233MHz, 32 MB RAM machine
I remember the time when i had to work on a 333 mhz celeron processor with 32 Mb Ram and had win2k installed. Everything crawled. Was not even able to load more than a window of yahoo messenger, winamp and a couple of IE windows and that was it.
I have even decided to install win2000 on my laptop. All though XP runs fine after some common customizations the config cant handle the long list of softwares installed and the games i play. Now i download a lot and as a result the 256 Mb RAm on XP turns out to be a bottleneck. So shifting to win2000 for Gaming, Instant messaging and browsing. Would be installing SP4 and Autopatcher July.
very interesting read. Thanks. I have a old system 700mhz or so wich was woefully slow untill i upgraded to 256mb rd ram , thats when 2000 responded and things became ok. But im going to apply these tweaks to get more preformance/speed. thanks once again.
